History
NASCAR was first born in 1949 when the Winston Cup series was made. There was a long line of stockcar champions waiting. In the later years of NASCAR when the champions began to come from stockcar racing the major champions of the time were Richard Petty and David Pearson. The two would change history of NASCAR forever. In the seventies there were many good racers but the one of the best of that time was Cale Yarlborough. He won four championships and racked up an outstanding total of seven hundred and seventy points. As the champions began to retire it brought in a new flow of drivers. The new drivers were Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott, and Michael Waltrip. It was always a fight between them as to who would get the championship. The major champion of the eighty’s was Dale Earnhardt. The turn of the decade would bring a new champion to the mix. Jeff Gordon had been racing for awhile but with years of experience and a new race car he won many championships during the ninety’s. The turn of the century brought on many new racers. Bobby Labonte was a long time racer that was rising to the top. His brother Terry Labonte had been a two time champion in the eighty’s and the ninety’s. Bobby Labonte in two thousand drove the Interstate Batteries Pontiac and won the championship in two-thousand.
Equipment The equipment used back in the early years of NASCAR was just a basic car with a number painted on it, a helmet, and some pads and body gear. As the years past the cars used for racing got safer and different makes began to get used. The newer cars had better padding and a better structure, so if the driver got in a wreck it would protect him better. The helmets were built stronger and the pads became thicker and more comfortable.

Rules and Regulations
As NASCAR has evolved through the ages the rules haven’t changed much. The rules only changed with the cars. There can be more support over the door in case of a wreck, and the engines have to be a certain make. The carburetor had to be a certain make that restricted the gas so the car would run as it is supposed to. There are a total of forty three drivers on the track at any one time. The drivers could not drill holes in the roll cage enabling for the car to go faster. Doing this would give the bars less strength and they would collapse in a race. A NASCAR must be equipped with a radio and the driver must have gloves, seatbelts, uniforms, and fire safety equipment. Over the years the rules have been enforced more.

now that they have actually given me some NASCARs to paint on, I think it would only be fitting, and fun to start a league.

Jason Philis is not unlike a bunch of NASCAR fans these days.

He’s been a fan of the sport for most of his life. Since he was about 3, he figures. And he’s got some issues with the way NASCAR is changing.
“Maybe I’m too much of an old school fan to appreciate this ‘better’ NASCAR, but I feel there has been a steady drop off of what made this sport great,” Philis wrote in an E-mail this week. “Drivers in their cars going 500 miles to prove who the better driver is. What happened to that?”
As Philis figures, with the new car styles and technological advances, the driver only has about 10% input into winning and the rest lies on the shoulders of technology and what happens back at the shop.
The new car design partially implemented last year, and fully in place this season, has a bit to do with that change.
However, ask any NASCAR star about driving these cars and they all say they’re working harder than ever to get around the track. In some ways, that’s actually been a throwback to the days when guys like Buddy Baker hurled cars around a speedway.
NASCAR’s thinking behind the COT was to eventually cut costs to teams and to also bring the competition closer, and ultimately – or allegedly – have better racing.
Part of that equation has worked.
Robby Gordon, a driver-owner, said earlier this week his team has run the same five cars for the last three months.
“We continue to build new inventory, build new cars, which are only better,” Gordon said, responding to a reporter’s question about next season’s budget. “And we do that throughout the season. So I can’t see any reason why next year would be a lot more money than it was this year to operate one of our cars.”
For an independent team, that’s a big deal. Huge. On that level the car has worked.
But, it’s also failed, too.
Gaston Gazette writer Monte Dutton wrote earlier this week that there’s a big difference between equal cars and equivalent cars. With equivalent cars, teams can adjust and improve the racing.
“By demanding that so much be all alike, NASCAR officials have diminished the quality of the racing,” wrote Dutton. “Generic cars have created generic races.”
Indeed, Sunday’s race at Pocono was far from a thrill-fest, and there have been plenty of complaints from fans this season that the COT has led to some boring races, no matter how many green-flag passes NASCAR has recorded.
Philis says he really misses the days when the cars on the track really looked like the cars on the road.
Yet, what troubles Philis is how rare it is for anyone outside of the big multi-car teams to win, and he fears that down the road there will be no one left but the big teams owning all the cars.
In fairness to NASCAR, it’s been a long time since a single-car team made a dent in the sport.
Whether the COT ultimately changes the ratio of multi-car teams to single-car teams won’t be known for some time.
“That’s not what I call fair and competitive racing,” Philis said of the current state of NASCAR. “Give all drivers the same range of equipment. Either make it affordable and available to all teams or restrict them from the big teams. Make it fair.”
Stock car racing is a long way from having that kind of level playing field, and probably never will. That worked with the IROC series on a limited basis, and that series is now dead.

And would we really want that in NASCAR?

CITROËN is proposing a new automotive vision with Survolt. Initiated by the Revolte concept car revealed at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Survolt is the continuation of CITROËN’S exploration of distinctive and original electric vehicles. Survolt Concept turns received notions through its radically new vision in a consummate blend of high-fashion glamour and motor-racing extravagance.
Survolt features two-tone paint, hues of fuchsia and charcoal grey, and plays with materials and volumes. It is further characterized by the strong contrasts between the voluptuous bonnet and and sculpted flanks with emphatic wheel arches. At the front, the distinctive Citroen badge reigns above the large oval-shaped grille, while its slim and horizontal head lamps are inspired by sports coupés. At the rear, Survolt features the elegant light signature of Revolte together with a spoiler in an essential reference to motor sport. Inside, Survolt’s cockpit is designed like a floating cell with a glass setting held between chrome-finished roll bars.

With its compact dimensions of 3.85 meter long, 1.87 meter wide and 1.20 meter high, Citroen Survolt Concept re-appropriates sports car styling cues to form an all-new and revolutionary concept. Like the Revolte concept car, Survolt is powered by electricity, thus combining sports performance with environmental respect and sustainable development.

Complimenting present automotive aspirations, Flux has shown the theme’s most relevant illustrations, since its concept corresponds to a type of car that achieves utter driving Pleasure through its Light weight and Efficiency, while at the same time remaining Accessible through the Simplicity and Ecology of its design.

Flux was chosen by a jury chaired by Frédéric Saint-Geours, General Manager of Automobiles Peugeot and made up of Peugeot representatives, its Style Centre, Xbox, but also of web based people who voted online.

Unveiled at this year’s Geneva show, and thanks to its sophisticated design, Flux will be making a second appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Flux will appear ‘real’ in the form of a full-scale model presented at Peugeot’s exhibition space and ‘virtual’ in a new version of the PGR 4 game on Xbox 360. These two elements constitute the two most fantastic prizes of the 4th Peugeot design competition.

The 4th design competition attracted greater participation, with more than 200 additional projects compared with the 3rd competition (4,029 compared with 3,800), confirming its international appeal, with 113 countries represented as opposed to 107 in the last competition.

The production of Flux

Flux was produced under the control of Peugeot’s Style Centre according to the rules normally adopted when making a show vehicle. Entrusted to Delphine Gouget, architect within the team responsible for making concept cars, Flux required the involvement of various style specifics and the use of the most powerful technological resources over a period of three months.

With the SW concept which first appeared in 2002 with the launch of the 307 SW, Peugeot created a new motoring concept, which has since become available in other models in the range.
Today the “SW” is synonymous with a true life style car within the Peugeot range and offers dynamism both in terms of style and road holding. The abbreviation also symbolises practicality and versatility, with good interior space and carrying capacity and superb modularity, allowing the car to adapt to its user’s wishes.

This SW body style also marked the arrival of the panoramic glass roof onto production vehicles, offering extraordinary levels of interior brightness and an unprecedented feeling of space and visibility, particularly for the rear passengers.
The SW therefore combines several benefits such as driving pleasure, comfort inside the car, and carrying capacity.
Capitalising on the strong points of the 308 hatchback, the 308 SW Prologue concept car, while asserting its own personality, takes the definition of the SW even further:

• further in terms of its elegant and extremely modern style;
• further in terms of flexibility, with the search for maximum practicality for potential users;
• further in terms of comfort inside the car, thanks to a particularly refined interior achieved through
• the use of original, natural colours and materials enhanced by the car’s exceptional brightness.

In brief, the 308 SW Prologue goes further to making the dream of driving pleasure come true.

Style

The 308 SW Prologue succeeds in harmonising the now familiar expressive and dynamic front design of the 308 with a very original design of the rear. Making the most of the hatchback’s semi-tall architecture, the finished vehicle takes into account the desired requirements in terms of carrying capacity and interior space for passengers, with the possibility of also installing a 3rd row of seats.

From the protruding “nose” of the bonnet, two style lines flow back over the bonnet, merging with the front windscreen pillars and then continuing as far as the car’s rear tailgate. The sharp and piercing look created by the bi-Xenon directional headlamps and the aluminium-coloured front grille with its recessed design is also derived from the 308 three and five door hatchback.

From the side, the vehicle offers a dynamism that is rare in this segment, with a particularly expressive forward-positioned window line. The highly original shape of the rear quarter light windows builds on this dynamic design, particularly since this window provides visibility to the passengers in the 3rd row.

The sides of the vehicle create a sense of motion that extends to the rear lights, enhancing the contours of the car’s prominent shape. Finally, the metallic aluminium coloured roof bars add fluidity and a dash of elegance.

The sophisticated and very bold rear lines are based on the idea of a wraparound single piece rear tailgate glass, which tightly fits around the sides of the body. In addition to its very original outline, this rear tailgate glass takes into account the need for rear access and visibility and can be opened independently of the tailgate, thereby easing loading in certain circumstances.

Combined with ruby coloured lights, the styling gives this concept car a highly distinctive real personality, as well as an overall impression of durability, size and an original modern feel.

The tailgate provides a wide access area to the inside of the car and also a particularly low load sill for maximum practicality.

Its very exclusive metallic body colour shows off the body contours to remarkable effect.

Interior

The interior offers a warm and refined atmosphere with an emphasis on lifestyle. The resulting atmosphere illustrates a high level of craftsmanship thanks to the use of natural materials and high quality finishes. The fascia panel with its very simple and fluid contours, matching those of the hatchback, is fully trimmed with Aniline brown leather creating a pearlescent reflective finish. Leather can also be found on the seats and door interior trim panels.

This creates a monochrome effect with the use of other high quality materials such as linen and silk. Sandstone coloured silk can be found on some parts of the seats and door trims. Benefiting from the brightness of the large glazed surface area, including the panoramic glass roof, this material generates a soft glow that reinforces the overall effect of quality.

Some components are coated with sprayed nickel such as the rims of the air vents, instruments, door handles and the surround of the gear lever knob, adding their own touch of class to this cosy and timeless atmosphere. Growing in character over time, these metallic components will continue to shine like stunning objects of art.

To complete the feeling of quality, a bespoke luggage set has been produced using the same materials found in the passenger compartment. This can easily be accommodated between the two 2nd row seats, where it then serves as an armrest.

Engine

The 308 SW Prologue concept car is powered by the 2.0 litre HDi DPFS 100 kW (≈136 bhp) engine equipped with an additive-enhanced diesel particulate filter system (DPFS). Its excellent performance offers genuine driving pleasure and complete peace of mind. Its HDi DPFS technology, in accordance with the spirit of the car, ensures it is environmentally-friendly, with reduced CO2 emissions and the complete eradication of particulate emissions.

Bit this new fuel is not compatible with standard petrol engines. It attacks certain materials and its specific physico-chemical characteristics require changes to be made to the fuel system and the engine injection system, among other things. Only vehicles that have been specially adapted can use superethanol. These vehicles can run on petrol, superethanol or any combination of the two (petrol / superethanol).

Based on the know-how it has acquired in Brazil, Peugeot will be marketing vehicles that run on superethanol in Sweden, the Netherlands and France as from September 2007; these vehicles will be called BioFlex. For France, the first models to be proposed are the 307 SW and Estate 1.6 l BioFlex 110, featuring the distinctive BioFlex logo specific to this technology.

Orders will be taken in France as from July, for delivery during the course of September. Despite the extra cost of the technical adaptation, Peugeot is doing everything to promote this technology by proposing the Comfort Pack versions of the 307 SW and Estate 1.6 l BioFlex 110 for the same price as the corresponding petrol versions, i.e. € 20,400 and € 19,500, respectively.

Why choose a BioFlex engine?

An ecological choice The reduced CO2 emissions obtained by using superethanol are based on the balance obtained over the entire cycle, from production to combustion (principle known as “from well/field to wheel”). According to some experts, the maximum total gain in CO2 obtained through the use of E85 could amount to 70 %.

The production of agricultural ethanol results in a gain in CO2 that corresponds to the amount absorbed by the plants during their growth (photosynthesis process). The gain obtained through the production of ethanol is therefore significantly dependent on the plants used, on their production, and on the method of transformation.

In itself, the combustion of E85 fuel in the engine emits approximately 5 % less CO2 than that of lead-free petrol, and in the case of the 307 BioFlex working on a combined cycle, this corresponds to 169 g of CO2 per km as opposed to 178 g in the case of petrol.

Tax advantages

In France, both for the general public and for professional users, the cost of vehicle registration papers could be reduced by 50 %, or could even be completely free of charge in some regions. Professional users also have the advantage of exceptional amortisation conditions, total exemption from TVS (Corporate Vehicle Tax) for 2 years, and VAT that can be claimed back to the extent of 80 % on the E85 fuel consumed.

Other advantages

The first advantage for the customer is freedom of choice. As Peugeot is eager to promote biofuels, there will be no additional cost for the customer to cover the extra outlay for technical adaptation: the 307 BioFlex models will be available at the same price as the corresponding petrol versions. The tax reduction on superethanol has made it possible to obtain a price at the pump of approximately € 0,80 per litre, which compensates the increase in consumption of approximately 35 % due to the fact that ethanol has a lower energy value than petrol.

These engines adapt themselves automatically to all mixtures of lead-free petrol and superethanol. So the customer can run the car only on lead-free petrol if he/she wishes, in which case the 307 BioFlex will not consume any more than the equivalent 307 equipped with the standard petrol engine. The final advantage is a slight improvement in performance obtained with E85 compared to petrol, estimated at + 4 % torque and + 2.5 % power.

Proven technology

Since March 2005, in Brazil, Peugeot has been selling the 206 1.6 l capable of running on petrol, on “pure” ethanol (E100), or on any combination of the two. The original modifications made to the TU5JP4 engine, to make it compatible with ethanol, mainly concerned the injectors, the spark plugs, the valves, the throttle butterfly valve control unit, the piston rings and the supply hoses. Since that time, in Brazil, this technology has been extended to the 1.4 l engine for the 206 and also to the saloon versions of the 307 with 1.6 l engines, and approximately 60,000 vehicles have been sold to date.

The 307 Estate and SW 1.6 l BioFlex 110 marketed in Europe use the TU5JP4 engine of the Brazilian 206 and 307, modified to meet the Euro IV standard applicable in Europe.

With a displacement of 1,587 cc, this engine develops a maximum power of 80 to 82 kW (110 to 112 hp EEC) at 5,800 rpm, and a maximum torque of 147 to 153 N.m at 4,000 rpm depending on the petrol / ethanol mixture used as fuel. This engine is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. This means that 307 BioFlex vehicles running on lead-free petrol obtain identical results in terms of both performance and fuel consumption, as compared to the standard petrol engine. When running on superethanol, 307 BioFlex vehicles are slightly more powerful, with slightly improved standing-start and passing acceleration figures.

In addition to the initial changes to the engine, modifications specific to European 307 BioFlex vehicles have been made to the functions that are directly connected with fuel. The digital engine control unit specific to 307 BioFlex vehicles manages the fuel supply according to the fuel composition measured by the lambda (EGO) sensor. The fuel tank is identical, but the minimum fuel level warning software has been changed in order to take the type of fuel used into account, in consideration of the additional fuel consumption due to the presence of ethanol results, which results in reduced autonomy.

The manufacturer Acer has benefited from the MWC to announce the arrival of a smartphone in the colors of the Scuderia Ferrari. It will run under Android 2.1 (Lightning) and will be unveiled next month.

It was during the MWC than a manufacturer Acer, which already collaborates with Ferrari on laptops and netbooks with the colors of the Scuderia, has announced it will present next month its first smartphone scratched Ferrari. It is also an opportunity for Acer to confirm its continued partnership with the Italian car manufacturer for the next three years (2010-2012).
Unfortunately we have no information on the characteristics of this new terminal. We just know that the Acer Ferrari smartphone will have a sophisticated design, performance and sensational turn it in the Android OS 2.1 (Lightning). Both brands are thereby seeking pole position in the smartphone segment.

Attention initially focused on making the vehicle as light as possible by the use of numerous aluminium components, for example the two roll over protection bars that separate the passenger compartment and give shape to the exterior styling, and the use of a polycarbonate rear windscreen and a large number of carbon fibre body parts.

Using the 308 as a blueprint offered a number of benefi ts. It made it possible:

• to adopt a particularly stylish front design;
• to share a large number of components already developed for the hatchback, therefore simplifying the production of this coupé;
• to capitalise on the hatchback’s strong points, which become even more effective in the 308 RC Z concept car (for example, suspension components, wheels, certain equipment items and the fl owing design of the fascia panel).

Its taut lines and streamlined design ensure an effi cient aerodynamic specifi cation (a SCx of just 0.65), improving performance, fuel consumption and therefore helping to protect the environment due to the reduced CO2 emissions. With a length of 4.276 (same as the hatchback), a width of 1.840 (25 mm more than the hatchback) and a height of only 1.320 m, the proportions of the 308 RC Z concept car combines a very dynamic design with a high level of road holding.

Exterior styling

The particularly stylish design of the front of the 308 blends brilliantly with the proportions of this concept car. The Peugeot “Lion” badge is mounted to what can truthfully be called the «nose of the bonnet». From here, the style lines fl ow upwards back over the bonnet and into the two polished aluminium roll-over protections bars. This fl owing «V» profi le gives the vehicle its shape and creates an impression of movement in all positions.

Visually, the fl uidity of the design is further enhanced by the way the large tinted front windscreen, the carbon fi bre roof panel and the polycarbonate tinted rear window are combined together.

The “feline-like” front headlights extend along the line of the bonnet. They contain four «cylindrical lights» each which create a bright and piercing beam of light. These “cylindrical lights” are clearly visible due to the clear glass headlamp lenses. The lower front panel differs from that of the 308 hatchback. It has a sharper and sportier shape with a single air intake and integral front fog lamps, while the front grille features chrome detailing.

From the side, the vehicle displays a strong profi le with its prominent front wings, deeply sculpted sides, and particularly generous rear wings. The doors raise the visual profi le, creating a link between the sloping front design and the curvaceous rear design.

The end result, fi rmly sitting on 19 inch wheels, suggests power, strength and dynamism, like an animal ready to pounce.

The specifi c shape of the rear window required the use of polycarbonate instead of glass. The two curved sections emerging from the roof give the vehicle an original appearance and contribute greatly to its aerodynamic effi ciency. The design of the tailgate assists the airfl ow over the rear of the vehicle, while the shape of the rear of the vehicle provides suffi cient down force onto the rear suspension to eliminate the need for a rear spoiler, thereby preserving the purity of the vehicle’s lines.

The Peugeot Lion badge is displayed in a U shaped panel in the centre of the tailgate, and is backlit at night. In addition, simply by pressing the lion badge, opens the tailgate. The rear lights are mounted fl ush with the car’s wide rear wings. Fitted with light emitting diodes (LEDs), they have a ruby red fi nish combined with a stylised translucent section which contains the direction indicator.

Two centrally mounted exhaust pipes are integrated into the wraparound lower rear panel. To achieve this, the rear exhaust silencer has been located in a transverse position where it also serves as an aerodynamic diffuser, but still allows suffi cient space for the storage of a spare wheel.

The rich metallic grey exterior body colour is created by a special process using fi nely milled metallic particles. This gives the impression that the vehicle has been formed from a single block of metal, enhancing the purity of the car’s lines and the styling of the bodywork to remarkable effect.

The interior

The fascia panel in 308 RC Z concept car has been taken directly from the hatchback. A pure, elegant and fl uid design, it allows a particularly clear view of the outside thanks to its sloping design which complements the vehicle’s large front windscreen. It offers a high level of interior brightness, improved visibility and an overwhelming feeling of space. Reflecting the hatchback, no effort has been spared in terms of the fi nishing touches and meticulous attention to comfort and convenience inside the car. This is evident in the care given to the styling of each component and the quality of materials used, both in terms of visual appearance and tactile appeal.

It will be available at launch with three engine options, two HDi diesels, 1.4 litre 70 bhp and 1.6 litre 90 bhp and a 1.4 litre 75 bhp petrol engine. All the engines will be fitted with a manual five speed gearbox with ratio selected to match the individual engine characteristics.
The 207 Van will also benefit from all the structural safety features of the hatchback and will include as standard, driver and passenger airbag and side airbags. ESP will be available as an option. With its car like comfort and equipment levels it will provide an ideal vehicle for service engineers, city centre deliveries and individuals who need to transport small loads such as florists or the transportation of documents etc.
Prices and specification will be announced nearer the launch of the 207 van in July.

First seen at the 2000 Geneva Autoshow, the big cat inspired Peugeot 607 Feline was designed at the La Garenne Design Centre.The 607 Feline is a 4.07 m long, 1.88 m wide, 1.19 m high wedge. The 2.58 m wheelbase allows extremely short overhangs which reinforce the car’s dynamic shape.
Usually concept cars are created to preview and perfect upcoming models. The 607 Feline didn’t follow this trend, since it was designed after the introduction of the 607.
The very latest technology is used in the form of a single-piece carbon fibre body structure, multiplex wiring and direction seeking headlights. This 607 is equipped with a 3.0 litre V6 (210bhp) petrol engine, radical double A-strut suspension, front rocking levers and a flexible cross-member at the rear, confirming that this is a unique and eminently drivable modern car.

Peugeot’s original brief for the 607 Feline was to concieve a luxurious, racy roadster with some design elements borrowed from the 607 sedan, such as the front end and the rear light cluster. All four wheels are pushed to the extreme corners of the Feline, possible for a one-off concept, but unfortunately unfeasible for most production cars.

The shell is carbon fibre, made in a vacuum from aircraft-type honeycombed panels. Linked to the axle assembly at the front, it covers the passenger compartment and body essentials, stopping just in front of the axis of the rear wheels.

The front mounted V6 engine is placed longitudinally behind the gear box. An innovative package which makes the very short overhangs displayed on the 607 Feline possible.

Strictly a two-seater, this car is laid out with longitudinal power unit to the front and five-speed manual gearbox forward of the engine. The six-cylinder engine is a 2946 cc 60° V with output of 152 kW (210 bhp). It has variable timing at intake, four overhead camshafts and twenty-four valves. This mechanical layout produces little polar inertia and ensures near-perfect weight distribution between the front and rear axles.

For access to the car interior, the doors slide almost entirely into the front wings. The windscreen also moves 50 cm on its wide frame between the passenger compartment and the bonnet while the rear bubble moves back 12.5 cm.

407 SW Sport XS is available in four metallic colours – Onyx Black, Aluminium, Iron Grey or Halcyon Blue – with Zino half leather upholstery as standard. In addition, leather upholstery in either Mistral Black or Cerbere Red is also available as a factory option as is the new RT4 Multi-Media system.

The 407’s 2.2-litre HDi is an evolution of the existing 2.2 DW12 TED4 engine, and utilises the latest advances in diesel technology by combining power, refinement and excellent fuel economy. It is the fourth phase of the cooperation between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the Ford Motor Company (initiated in 1998).

The quest to deliver an outstanding state of the art diesel engine has resulted in the creation of a twin turbocharged, parallel sequential induction system that gives unrivalled levels of power and responsiveness, even at low revs. The first low inertia turbo operates up to 2,700 rpm, and gives an immediate response to throttle input. As the revs rise, the second, smaller turbo kicks in seamlessly to give enhanced performance throughout the rest of the rev range. The new HDi 170 is fully compliant with Euro 4 regulations, and produces a maximum torque output of 277 lb ft at only 1,500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Technical Overview

The in-line four-cylinder diesel engine has 16 valves (4 valves per cylinder) with direct injection and two fixed geometry turbochargers. Toyota gives the 2011 Avalon a more memorable and substantial grille, along with a bigger helping of chrome trim, redesigned rocker panels and new headlights. New 17-inch wheels on the Limited grade get a 10-spoke design with a flashy mirror finish.
Interior changes include what Toyota says are “highly readable” gauges “that use graduated white illumination with white pointers.” The gauges are set in a new instrument panel. Rear headrests have been reshaped and enlarged. New standard equipment includes Bluetooth, XM Satellite Radio, and USB and auxiliary connections for iPod and other audio devices.

The redesigned Avalon gets the carry-over 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Avalon will be available in two grades, base and Limited. Both grades have standard eight-way leather-trimmed power driver seats, a back-up camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Limited model adds such standard features as rain-sensing wipers, Smart Key and cooled leather seats

It’s no secret that the new 2011 Bentley Mulsanne is a lot more expensive than most cars being released these days. And by a lot more, we mean a lot more. If you haven’t heard about the controversial “Late Night Wars” between NBC, Jay Leno, and Conan O’Brien, then we have to ask you exactly what rock you’re living in.

For those that are in the loop, you probably know the news that Conan O’Brien is leaving the Tonight Show after only seven months to job after being forced out by NBC and Jay Leno. We could go on and on about the story but we’ll save it for another time.

Anyway, seeing that his days as host of the Tonight Show are numbered, Conan spared no expense in racking up NBC’s bills by inviting special new characters to his show that are not so much as ’funny’ as they are ’crazy expensive’.

When you’re watching a Formula One race and you see a driver inexplicably lose control of his car before crashing it, which is then followed by the announcers repeatedly explaining that the car’s brake rotor had caused it to lose braking, wouldn’t you want to see exactly how all of this happens?
Fortunately, the folks over at Modern Marvels were curious about the same thing so they did what inquisitive people do best: they tried to do it themselves.
Of course, the whole experiment is nothing more than just a simulations test so it doesn’t really capture the overlying experience of a brake rotor exploding at speeds in excess of 200 mph, but at the very least, you’ll know what’s bound to happen if you do decide to try it for yourself.

The perks of being Jeremy Clarkson certainly knows no bounds. As the host of quite arguably the number one car show in the world, Clarkson virtually has unlimited access to just about every car in the world he so wishes to drive.
As if that privilege alone isn’t enough, Clarkson can make trips to any part of the world on somebody else’s dime, which is what he found himself in after being invited by Arctic Trucks of Iceland to film a special segment of Top Gear on – of all places – the North Pole.
As you can imagine, Clarkson and top wing-man, James May had a truckload – no pun intended – of fun during their expedition with Clarkson even getting a chance to take the satnav-equipped Toyota Hilux around for a spin across the frozen wastes and wild landscape of Iceland.

15th January 2010 – Millions of television viewers around the world witnessed the mighty Toyota Hilux becoming the first car to be driven to the Magnetic North Pole, with Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson at the wheel. Now intrepid drivers have the chance to get behind the wheel of a similarly awesome Hilux and test their skills across the frozen wastes in a new range of adventure off-roading tours.

Reykjavik-based Arctic Trucks, the specialist company which engineered the Hilux to cope with the extreme conditions of the Top Gear challenge, is offering trips of between two and five days and longer expeditions through the wild landscape of Iceland. Driving a Lamborghini Gallardo GTR Racecar, the team, which is comprised of veteran race car drivers Jens Klingmann, Maximilian Göetz and Achim Winter, managed to exceed everyone’s expectations by posting better-than-expected results with Klingmann winning all three races despite having never driven the car before. Goetz and Winter also racked up their own impressive results with the two bagging third place in Race 3.

If there was one tuning house you’d trust to spice up a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering ranks right up there at the top. Among the key modifications the tuning house did on the ZR1’s already powerful 6.2-liter V8 engine include a cast aluminum air intake snout and an 11-rib, 2.6-inch pulley, an upgraded air filter, a four-inch diameter intake tube with mass air sensor, a ported throttle body, and a cast aluminum air inlet. The result of the Lingenfelter’s body of work is a ZR1 that churns out as much as 740 horsepower and 740 lb/ft of torque, an dramatic increase in output compared to what standard ZR1s are capable of

On Sunday, Ashley Force, another comely lass who loves all things smelling like motor oil and shaped like spark plugs, became the first woman to ever win the NHRA Funny Car ( fuh-fuh-funny car! funny car!)event. You may remember Force from that reality show “Driving Force” where her and her racing family pretty much did the same things that the guys did on “American Chopper”, but with less muscle shirts and more helmets. And, yes, based on some of her phtos, it appears she’s also a person you’d most likely not ask to leave your sleeping quarters for munching on a crumbly snack.

Force’s win comes just a week removed from Danica Patrick’s monumental Indy Car victory, hopefully providing inspiration for plenty of young lead-footed ladies who someday dream of becoming racing champions. The only thing left is for a female monster truck driver to take Mrs.BIGFOOT over 50 burning station wagons and this glass ceiling in racing will be officially shattered forever.

You know how action movies almost always has to have a car chase scene where a car spectacularly flies over a cliff before crashing down into a ball of flame.

This accident involving a BMW 3-Series Coupe didn’t have the theatrics of Hollywood, but it still was eye-popping enough to catch our attention.

According to the driver of the 3-Series who lived to tell the story of his cliff-plunging ordeal, he was driving along the Angeles Crest Highway in California with a female friend when a group of animals caught him off-guard, causing him to swerve his 3-Series straight into the edge of the cliff where it flew straight off before tumbling down the mountain in a heap.

Remarkably, both the driver and his female companion escaped the cliff-flying episode without any serious injuries, although both of them know how incredibly fortunate they are to have all their appendages intact after such a terrible crash.

There’s no excuse for crashing a car, let alone doing it while under the influence of alcohol so when we found out that a 21-year-old girl did all of the above – in a Maserati Quattroporte, no less – we kind of figured that she’s going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble.
After having one too many alcoholic beverages for her own good, Alex Ford decided to have an even better time behind the wheel of the borrowed Maserati. Initial reports indicated of a speeding Quattroporte to which, Officer Tracy Sheets was quick to respond to.
It didn’t take long for Ford and Sheets to meet though, after the Quattroporte crashed head-on into Sheets’ police cruiser, severely injuring the police officer and leaving Ford in a pretty bad mess of her own.

Both ladies were taken to a hospital and after some initial concerns about their status, both Ford and Sheets have since been upgraded to good and fair conditions, respectively.

As far as Ford is concerned, her good fortune was all too fleeting as after a blood draw determined her alcohol level, a warrant was issued for the reckless driver where she’s facing charges of intoxicated assault causing serious body injury to a peace officer.

We don’t mind sounding like a broken record in the interest of safety, but drinking under the influence has never – and will never be – a good idea.

By now you would’ve figured that General Motors would go through great lengths to promote the mettle of the Chevrolet Volt. Having previously done a water trough test, GM decided that maybe the Volt should be subjected to yet another test, this time, of the scorching variety.

To ensure that any part of the Volt would not be subjected to warping or sagging when exposed into hot weather, GM turned up the knob on the old pressure cooker to see just how the Volt handles being in the figurative spotlight.

In this video, the Volt is being given a solar heat test, with temperatures reaching as high as 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don’t know your conversions, 200 degrees Fahrenheit is twice as hot as the boiling point so you can be rest assured that if there’s any part of the car that couldn’t stand the heat, this test would show it.

Suffice to say, Nissan is gearing up for a busy 2010.

After spending the better part of last year trying to regain its footing in the auto industry following the inescapable effects of the global financial crisis, Nissan has finally decided to direct its attention and resources on making 2010 the year of the comeback.

In a recent round-table discussion held at the Detroit Auto Show, Nissan America chairman Carlos Tavares laid out the Japanese brand’s bold plans for 2010, including the upcoming release of eight new models for this year.

Among the models Tavares singled out as primed and ready for the production line include the Infiniti M37 six-cylinder and M56- V-8, the Infiniti QX56 SUV, the 40th anniversary model of the Nissan 370Z, the Nissan Juke, the Nissan NV 2500, the Nissan Leaf, the Nissan Quest Minivan, and a still to-be-named Infiniti model, which, according to Tavares is an “all-new derivative model that will feature different powertrain, features and equipment than currently found in whatever model from which it will be derived.”

From the looks of things, the release of these new models in a year’s time gives us an inkling that Nissan just might be ready to get back into the automotive game.

Travis Pastrana is never one to back down from a death-defying stunt so as you can expect, when he talked about ringing in 2010 by jumping 250 feet into the air on board his Red Bull Subaru WRX STI rally car onto a waiting barge, none of us second-guessed his sanity.

After a few botched practice sessions, the time finally came for Pastrana to do his New Year’s jump and as the video of the whole episode will show you, Pastrana surely kicked off 2010 off to a rousing start.

Traditionally, when two cars go on a race, the thinking is that both cars should be evenly matched. After all, when only two cars are involved, it doesn’t make sense to have one be superior to the other, otherwise, why do it in the first place.

Opel’s new promo video featuring the all new Insignia sees it go face-to-face with one of the brand’s most iconic rally cars, the Opel Ascona 400, the last rear-wheel drive rally car that won the WRC World Championship way back in 1982.

So ok, it’s not really a fair race considering that the Ascona is close to hitting 40 years old but it sure made for an entertaining watch as the historical rally car went up against the new Insignia – a car that comes with an optional Adaptive 4×4 system on the 220HP 2.0-liter version and a standard 4×4 system on the 2.8 V6 Turbo and OPC variants.

Manning the wheels of the Ascona 400 is rally legend Christian Geistdörfer while Sina Winkelhock, a budding racer in her own right, is behind the wheel of the Insignia in this race on ice. Like we said, there’s really no suspense as to what car will take the chequered flag, but if you want to see the slick manoeuvrability of the Insignia – even under less-than-ideal road conditions – then you should definitely give this video a look.

BMW’s recent foray into the world of software applications has resulted in the offspring of yet another app for its M Series. Calling it the M Power Meter, the new iPhone app allows users the opportunity to gauge a number of unique features from their car including 0-60 times, distances, and g-forces experienced. Unlike other apps that charge you for the experience, the M Power Meter app is entirely free-of-charge and can downloaded straight from the App Store on Apple’s website. Apart from being free, it’s also painstakingly easy to use. All you have to do is download the software, accept the terms and conditions of the app, put it in your car in an upright position and you’re ready to go. The M Power Meter has a default 0-50km/h time that can be easily adjusted to as much as 200 km/h. Users can also opt to adjust the distance covered by the run from 100 meters, which is the standard, all the way up to 2,000 meters.

But quite arguably the most interesting part of the M Power Meter is that it can capture the amount of g-force – whether forward or lateral – a run can determine. Quite a nifty experience, if you ask us. We don’t know about you, but we’re the type of people that can’t seem to turn down something that’s being given for free – even if we don’t find the product necessarily appealing. Fortunately, the M Power Meter is something that we’ve been waiting a long time to come out so you can imagine our giddiness when it finally did.

Lets face it: small games is what really make us smile! And this is what ModNation Racers is – a small PS3 game that combines Little Big Planet and Super Mario Kart.

Players will be able to create their own character, while the racing game will be full of enemies, lots of weapons and various objects to swing your predecessors or your pursuers.

In the U.S., a beta version will be available from December 18 to January 10, while the full game will be released in spring.

It was in the 1930s that Peugeot started the innovative concept of the coupé cabriolet with the 401, 601 and 402 “Eclipse”. This innovative concept was to become one of the manufacturer’s trademark features.

With two petrol engines and one diesel engine, the 207 CC comes with a comprehensive range of power trains for this market segment. In France, the range will consist of:

1.6 litre 16v petrol, 88 kW – EP6

After the 1.6 litre 16v THP (EP6DT) engine with a power of 110 kW (˜150 bhp.), the EP6 is the 2nd engine created from the co-operation with the BMW Group, to be featured in a Peugeot vehicle. It has a maximum power of 88 kW (˜120 bhp.) at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 4250 rpm.

It has a very flat torque curve, since even at low engine speeds (2000 rpm), it produces 140 Nm, or 88 % of its maximum torque, thereby ensuring excellent driveability.

The advanced technology used in this engine is a genuine first for a vehicle in the B segment. In addition to its variable timing system for the inlet and exhaust camshafts, a variable lift system on the inlet valves allows their maximum lift to be adjusted gradually according to the position of the accelerator pedal.

It is a result of the cooperation between Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and PSA Peugeot Citroën, this new 4×4 DHi – DPFS will be marketed from July 2007.
The 4007 is loyal to Peugeot’s values, style value, dynamic, aesthetically pleasing and

Straight from Peugeot’s design centre, the racy and feline front design of the 4007, with its tapered headlights and its open front grill are the first signs that it belongs to the marque. The chrome structure that makes up this large air inlet strengthens the car’s elegance and its natural air of nobility.

Framing the air entry at the bottom of the bumper, the fog lights in a chrome surround, give a suggestion of refinement and strength. The aerodynamic design of the roof gives an elegant profile which is complimented by a contemporary rear. This is enlightened by a piece of brushed aluminium in the original design which emphasises the translucent jewel-like lights whilst showing off the marque’s chrome emblem above the number plate.

The generous size of the wheel arches and the ground clearance contribute to give the 4007 a general impression of controlled power and the promise of a vehicle dedicated to drivers no matter what the driving conditions. The 4007’s interior has also benefited from Peugeot’s specialised designers. It is dynamic and functional and offers lots of storage.

The dashboard material and design as well as the door trim have been reworked to satisfy European customers’ expectations.

Always aware of the environment, Peugeot has fitted an advanced technology particle filter (FAP) to the 4007 series, a guage of performance durability, associated with the latest diesel engine, the 2.2 l HDi This diesel engine with direct common rail injection of 2.2 l cylinders is the result of the partnership with the Ford Group, It has an engine power of 115 kW (156 hbi in the EEC), a torque that reaches 380 Nm and is able to function on 30% biofuel.

Pleasurable and agile in use, this engine boasts one of the best consumption and emission evaluations amongst the best in the category. The 6 speed manual gearbox makes best use of the characteristics of this new HDi engine.

Specifically Perfected Road Handling

The electronic management of the four motorised wheels is based upon specifically perfected road handling , thanks to recognised know how. The constitutive elements such as the steering, the four wheel drive, the suspension, the brakes and the tyres have been re-evaluated and adapted in order to obtain maximum efficiency.

Following the example of all Peugeots, the road handling of the 4007 is both dynamic and safe.
