The Infiniti EX30d joins the EX37 V6 petrol models in Infiniti Centres across Europe from summer 2010 (depending on country). The sports coupé-inspired SUV is the second Infiniti to be powered by diesel. It inherits exactly the same 3.0-litre V6 piezo-injection engine as has been available in its big brother, the FX30d, since June 2010. In the form used in the EX and FX crossovers, the Alliance’s V9X V6 diesel is very much a bespoke Infiniti unit. It was developed by Infiniti to deliver more kilometres and lower carbon emissions than the brand’s petrol V6 while enhancing the high performance and refinement central to Infiniti’s luxury ethos.

The outputs are exceptional for the compact SUV class. The V6’s 175 kW (238 PS) maximum power equals the best available while its massive torque, of 550 Nm from just 1750rpm. Where the law allows, the Infiniti EX30d can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds and hit 221 km/h flat out.

Infiniti today confirmed that its first production hybrid vehicle will be part of the recently announced line of 2011 Infiniti M luxury performance sedans, which are scheduled to go on sale in spring 2010 at Infiniti dealers nationwide. The Infiniti M35 hybrid is expected to arrive about 12 months later as a 2012 model. It is Infiniti’s first hybrid in its 20-year existence, as well as the cleanest and most economical car in Infiniti’s history.
Realizing the high performance/low emissions promise of the recent Infiniti Essence concept car, the M35 Hybrid has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti’s appeal. The M35 Hybrid is based on the all-new M, which itself picks up styling cues from Essence, the show-stopper that made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show early in 2009.

The M35 Hybrid maintains a high performance luxury sedan profile, overlaying it with the fuel economy and CO2 emissions of a smaller car, while delivering driving flair to please any enthusiast – complete with charismatic V6 and rear-wheel drive handling.

Infiniti’s hybrid system, developed solely within Infiniti’s parent group, is a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The result of this configuration, where all components act on a single prop shaft to the rear differential, is a consistent driving feel under all conditions with linear performance and the “direct responses” that the engineers sought.

The electric motor acts as both propulsion unit, boosting the V6 in “power assist” mode when maximum acceleration is required, and also as a generator. Along with charging the battery in the normal way, the motor recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking.

The M Hybrid can also run solely on its electric motor in certain driving conditions, furthering fuel efficiency and optimizing energy usage across the widest possible range of driving conditions. Details of driving range, performance and transmission will be released later.

As expected of Infiniti, several new technologies are introduced in the new M35 Hybrid, including a “laminated” lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack that is the same size as conventional batteries but offers twice the power. Lamination enhances the pack’s cooling performance, while temperature stability is further improved by the use of manganese positive electrodes. An end result of this is exceptional battery reliability.

The M35 Hybrid joins conventional engine-equipped 2011 M versions – including a new high-performance diesel V6 for Western Europe – as the first Ms to be sold across all of Infiniti’s world markets, currently 33 countries. All of the new-generation Infiniti M models are on target to beat their predecessors on fuel consumption and emissions – despite across-the-board performance improvements – thanks to a range of efficiency-enhancing measures.

Interior

Even though the FX appears to be large from the outside, once inside you notice the drawbacks to the round shape. The windshield looks small, the rear glass looks smaller and the driving compartment begins to feel a little short on space. However the seats are great, the quilted pattern is not only elegant looking but comfortable as well, and offer adjustments ranging from the traditional on top of the world SUV seating position to being slammed to the floor like a DTM racecar driver. Once the perfect location is chosen with the 8 way power adjustable front seats, the interior begins to feel cozy, and everything seems to be right where it should.

Complimenting the leather upholstery is a beautiful contrast between the Maple wood and brushed aluminum panels in the doors, and the Maple continues onto the center console. The small diameter steering wheel is excellent; the size is one of those touches that make the driver think they are back behind the wheels of a sports car. The only drawbacks to the steering wheel are the numerous buttons and switches that make it seem more like an F1 item than something out of a luxury SUV and can be distracting to operate while driving.

Interior

The center stack is one of the best that I have ever seen in an automobile because there is so much being controlled in such a small space so simply. Starting up top with the navigation screen there are controls for the vehicle’s navigation system, a button to activate the hazard signal, a camera button to view the Around View Monitor and another that cycles between AM, FM and Satellite Radio. Just below the screen are the rest of the audio controls, and even though the driver can cycle through preset radio stations with the switch on the steering wheel, it is nice that Infiniti has kept the easy to use tuning knob that makes for a much better low tech solution. Just underneath the audio are the straightforward controls for the dual zone climate control system. The finishing touch of the center stack, reminding passengers that the FX is truly a luxury vehicle, amidst all the digital technology, is the classic Infiniti analog timepiece.

Handling

The FX50S handles like a sports car. The lightweight 21 inch Enkei’s reduce the unsprung mass and the four 265 series tires combined with the ATTESA E-TS all wheel drive system provides the luxury SUV with more than enough mechanical grip. Despite the hefty curb weight of 4686 pounds, that is distributed almost evenly (53/47) across the front and rear wheels, the FX exhibited very little body roll. Our Infiniti featured Continuous Dampening Control, with a Sport and Auto mode. The CDC monitors a multitude of sensors and continuously adjusts the dampening of the shock absorbers to provide the optimal ride and handling for the driver. In both Sport and Auto the FX translated every bump in the road to the occupants, perhaps a Comfort mode could solve the harshness, but that would not be very sports car like. Another drawback to the sports car features is the excessive amount of road noise produced by the 21 inch tires when traveling at highway speeds.

Performance

New for the 2009 Infiniti FX are a 5.0 liter V8 that produces 390 HP and the seven-speed transmission attached to it. The new power plant is up 70 horses from the 4.5 liter V8 previously found in the FX, and is enough to push you deep into the seatback when the engine is singing at full throttle. The eight cylinder engine features VVEL, the electronic valve control system works to broaden the torque curve, in the FX50S it peaks at 369 lb-ft. The semi-automatic transmission features a Sport mode that matches revs while downshifting and can be shifted by either the gear lever or the leather wrapped magnesium paddle shifters. The powerful engine/transmission combination means that the FX50S will sprint from 0-60 MPH in only 5.5 seconds, a time typically reserved for sports cars.

Verdict

So who should buy an Infiniti FX50S? If it is overall comfort that you are after, the luxurious interior and comfortable ride of the FX35 may be more of what you are looking for. However; if you have the need to carry 5 passengers, want the safety and convenience of an SUV, but still want to have lots of fun behind the wheel then the Infiniti FX50S is just what you are looking for.

Presented as a concept at the 79th International Motor Show of Geneva, Essence is a celebration of Infiniti and its 20 years history as a creator of performance cars. But equally it is an inspiring exploration into the brand’s future.
The dramatic design, technology and performance statement is a 600PS, petrol/electric hybrid coupe with rear-wheel drive. What Essence is not is merely an indulgent birthday present from Infiniti to itself.

This concept embodies Infiniti’s core values as an inspiration for the future as much a celebration of the past. Essence showcases many of the technologies, including hybrid, and design cues that will distinguish Infiniti production cars of the coming years. And by steering Infiniti’s guiding principle of “Inspired Performance” into the super-performance, super-luxury coupe market for the first time, it reaffirms Infiniti’s place among the world’s most exclusive and vibrant car brands.

ESSENCE: THE CONCEPT

“An Essence owner is characterized by his or her fearless self confidence; he or she is an intellectual hero rather than just a successful money maker.”
Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning

Essence began life not in the design studio but in Infiniti’s product planning department. Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning, and his team might not, at the start of the project, have known how Essence would look, but they did know what it had to be, why it had to exist – and who it would appeal to.

“Essence is a brand icon,” Francois Bancon said. “It is driven more by a conceptual approach than by any design execution. It is not just an object. It isn’t a teaser for a new model. It is solely dedicated to Infiniti brand promotion, to demonstrate and advocate the Infiniti unique values.”

The concept called for a very clear understanding of who the super-luxury coupe’s potential customers would be. Painstakingly, Bancon and his team of advanced product planners built up a picture of a typical Essence owner. It was a profile that showed an uncompromising, risk-taking 42-year-old passionate about the best things in life, but equally passionate about not flaunting them. “These consumers don‘t need to demonstrate to others,” said Bancon. “They are already at the next step of achievement that leads to rewarding themselves first.”

Francois Bancon went on: “We wanted a new way of mixing various ingredients to get a car that was reserved but with a big presence, something trendy but also indicating the next trend. We wanted a car that aspired to become a cult. It had to be exclusive, smart and mysterious. For the driver, it had to sum up the six-word essence of Essence:

Everything I want, nothing I don’t

1. DESIGN: DYNAMIC ADEYAKA

“The design embeds a sense of mystery, a sense of being in the know. Essence is not about showing signs of wealth and success.”
Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design

With breathtaking good looks and perfect proportions, Essence exerts a powerful pull on all those who love cars. It looks like a driver’s car, one that would be right at home spearing down the world’s grandest motoring routes.

But Essence is no aggressive sports car. Infiniti’s “Dynamic Adeyaka” attitude ensures Essence is single-minded, but also inviting, sophisticated and born of inspiration from both the human and natural worlds. To further boost its emotional appeal, it features details that bring a very modern take to some very old Japanese traditions.

The designers’ aim was to merge all existing Infiniti design cues with fresh design language in a shape that the 20-year-old marque has never before attempted. The result is highly sculptural yet also very delicate. Essence speaks of power but not intimidation.

The bonnet is, as you would expect of an Infiniti, long, and the rear deck short. Together with a flowing “wave” profile between muscular front and rear wheelarches, Essence at first appears to be in the classic sports car mould. But there is nothing retro about Essence.

The side window graphics bring a particularly innovative and distinctive edge to the styling. The window appears to be resting on a ledge, its razor sharp line in contrast to the concave sweep of the upper body just below it. Imagine juxtaposing flowing water with the stark outline of a canyon landscape.

The rear section also features complex surfacing with concave “scoops” that flow down the rear pillars from one of Essence’s most distinctive design cues: a C-shaped kink to the side windows’ trailing edge. Outlined by a wide flourish of stainless steel, it adds instant movement to the car even when it is standing still.

One of the most distinctive details is the trim around the side air vents. The simple yet delicate shape, finely finished in aluminium, is based on the “kanzashi”, a hairpin used by women when wearing the kimono. Other lines and details are inspired by the wide brush strokes of Japanese calligraphy. Essence represents a successful merging of iconic cultural cues with automotive aesthetics.

Essence’s front is characterised by Infiniti’s signature double-arch grille, set at an angle that suggests the car is about to leap forward. There is an illuminated Infiniti badge at its heart. Rounded corners effectively hide the front overhang and make this 4.7m-long car appear anything but big in the flesh.

The grille is framed by subtle strips of stainless steel but there’s little other trim and no other grilles or intakes, not even foglights. At the front as over the rest of the car, Essence eschews superfluous body embellishments that could interrupt the graceful strength of the whole. The door handles are slithers of push buttons flush with the body while even rear-view mirrors must make way for minuscule cameras teased out of the A-pillars.

More familiar Infiniti cues include the lights. At the front the signature L-shaped modules taper back on to the bulging guards, picked out at their top edge by a row of LEDs. Slender fillets of red light curve around the car at the back, overlapping with the boot opening and framing the vestigial spoiler. Edged by more stainless steel, the spoiler appears to have been pushed out from within the car.

The windscreen flows back into a full glass roof that then tapers down towards the boot opening – making just one more memorable view of a car that doesn’t have a wrong angle to it.

On design, Essence is simple and amazingly complex, classical and totally dynamic all at the same time. Most of all as the epitome of “dynamic adeyaka” it boasts massive presence. Once seen, never forgotten.

2. INTERIOR: DRIVER-FOCUSED

“Detailed artistic expression and the rich warmth of the human hand go far beyond mechanical precision.”
Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design

For a driver’s car, the perfect driver’s cabin. Essence’s interior is minimalist, ergonomic and totally focused on the job in hand: to give the person behind the wheel a feeling of absolute control. And yet all this driver focus goes hand in hand with a passenger area dominated by comfort, calm and elegance to offer the kind of hospitality that is so important to the Japanese people, and also to Essence.

The asymmetrical cabin is divided into two areas separated by a large curving console between the seats that sweeps around to merge with the centre of the dashboard. The result is two very distinct cocoons. The driver’s side is themed black, the passenger’s “cocoon” an earthy red.

A flat-bottomed steering wheel and chronometer-style dials announce to the driver this is a serious performance machine. There are no gimmicks or sci-fi solutions here, just single-minded dedication to driving. Witness the technical nature of the displays, the short, alloy-topped gear selector and, just in front of it another finger-flick away, the bright red engine start button.

The car wraps itself around the driver who can quickly relax with the Infiniti trademarks of supportive seat and perfect driving position. There are more Infiniti cues such as the big gearchange paddle shifters behind the wheel and the analogue clock in the centre of the dash.

Infiniti designers believe the best functionality works behind the scenes, appearing only when needed. They call this “hidden tech”, and it’s the key to the functional minimalism that dominates the control layout. By not baffling drivers with buttons or overburdening them with information, Essence offers a sense of well-being to everyone, allowing them to focus entirely on enjoying the energizing driving experience.

With the materials used – leather, Alcantara, hand-painted wood inspired by traditional Japanese lacquerware – the cabin exudes a rich and inviting warmth. Attention to detail is such that even the leather seams on the seat backs differ from left side to right side. Why? So they can accurately reflect the way Japanese men and women tie their kimonos.

Essence’s interior promotes a sense of well-being which is key to the Infiniti driving experience.

3. DRIVETRAIN: POWER WITH RESPONSIBILITY

“Infiniti’s performance feel has been captured as natural dynamism, like energy rising from within.”
Francois Bancon, General Manager Advanced Product Planning

Essence’s drivetrain is designed to meet the highest expectations of owners by delivering the one thing everyone expects of an Infiniti – sheer driving pleasure. In Essence that pleasure is taken to new heights, at the same time as previewing an innovative green hybrid engine.

Essence is unusual even in the rarefied atmosphere of the world’s fastest road cars by being able to call on a mighty 600PS (592bhp). The power guarantees high performance responses on any road, in any situation. Essence is not, however, an intimidating sports racer. Like the design, the performance is designed to be sophisticated and unobtrusive – performance with a human touch.

The hybrid system is a logical extension of Infiniti parent group’s groundbreaking green commitments. It offers power with efficiency, and high performance with zero-emissions running, by combining a petrol engine with an electric motor. These can work independently or together as a “parallel” hybrid system.

In congested urban areas, the electric motor alone is all that is needed for Essence to glide silently between stoplights, with no tailpipe emissions.

When the traffic clears, Essence responds with a highway performance that few cars could match. In “power assist” mode the full 600PS is unleashed with both petrol and electric power working together.

A key difference over some other hybrid systems is that both the V6 and the electric motor feed their power only to the rear wheels. Performance is more linear, response is crisper – and driving pleasure further enhanced – as a result.

Infiniti’s familiar 3.7-litre V6 gasoline engine is fitted with twin turbochargers, boosting power to 440PS (434bhp). A new direct-injection fuel system ensures the engine works more efficiently than ever in Essence.

Essence previews a new type of electric motor, called 3D Motor, that was designed to meet tough requirements on size and power output. The result is a particularly slim, disk-shaped motor that has twice the torque of a conventional unit. Its design was achieved by 3D magnetic field analysis to optimize the layout of the electromagnetic coils and permanent magnets.

In Essence, the motor is positioned between the engine and transmission and provides 160PS (158bhp), drawing power from a compact lithium-ion battery pack in the boot area. Because the 3D Motor operates in both propulsion and power regeneration modes, the battery pack is kept charged up.

Optimized energy useage across the widest possible range of driving conditions is guaranteed by two separate clutches which “switch in” the motors as required. It is a system that needs no torque converter, further enhancing responsiveness and driving pleasure.

4. SAFETY: A COLLISION-FREE FUTURE

On a global level, Infiniti is committed to building safer vehicles equipped with advanced safety technologies.

Essence previews some of the next-generation safety features that will ensure Infiniti cars remain among the safest on the road. Chief among them is a “Safety Shield” that goes a long way towards the Infiniti engineers’ dream of a collision-free car.

The Safety Shield adds two new technologies to the Distance Control Assist (DCA) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems that are available in today’s production Infinitis. Side Collision Prevention (SCP) and Back-up Collision Prevention (BCP) extend the anti-collision shield all the way around the car.

With SCP, when the driver decides to change lanes, side-mounted sensors activate a warning if an approaching vehicle is detected in the driver’s intended lane. A yaw mechanism is then activated through brake control of individual wheels to help prevent a potential collision. Back-up Collision Prevention works in a similar way, sensing a vehicle behind, giving the driver a warning but then, if the warning is not heeded, activating the brakes automatically.

The warning system and pre-emptive safety features are designed to help support the driver in an intuitive manner with minimal intervention.

5. PRACTICALITY: A VERY BESPOKE SOLUTION

The team behind Essence harked back to an early motoring era to find the right solution for carrying luggage. The result is as classy as luggage ever gets, surprisingly practical and dreamily romantic. It also re-establishes the historic ties between a carmaker and one of the best-known names in luxury goods – Louis Vuitton.

Vuitton first worked with a coachbuilder – the famous Kellner company ¬ – in 1908, equipping one of their early luxury limousines with a set of bespoke luggage. Other coachbuilders quickly beat a path to Vuitton’s door in Paris. Made-to-measure Vuitton trunks were an integral feature of some of the greatest cars of the first part of the 20th century.

The collaboration between Infiniti and Vuitton revives the idea of a set of the highest quality luggage made to fit exactly a car’s boot area. In Essence there are three rigid pieces: a matched pair of slender briefcases atop a large trunk. All are made in the new Damier Graphite canvas and feature sleekly integrated handles and an overall design in harmony with the car itself.

There is hi-tech, too. A button on the key fob electrically opens the boot lid, allowing the boot floor to slide silently rearwards. This is one boot an owner will never have to struggle to access.

In a nod at tradition, the cases even bear the initials of their owner – SN, standing for Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Design.

6. INFINITI: 20 YEARS OF PERFORMANCE CARS

The Essence has been 20 years in the making. For that is how long the essence of the marque – its very being, a distillation of everything that Infiniti stands for – has taken to reach its current state of perfection.

The idea behind Infiniti was first discussed in 1985 but it wasn’t until November 1989 that the first Infiniti model was sold in North America. Today it is the fastest growing luxury brand in the US.

But it is also far more than just a US brand. Today Infiniti has more than 230 dealers in 15 countries with worldwide sales of 150,000 annually.

Infiniti’s success is down to many things, not least the “Dynamic Adeyaka” attitude behind every Infiniti model. When Adeyaka meets The Total Ownership Experience the result is the three pillars of Infiniti: driving pleasure, hospitality and peace of mind.

All these values are perfectly summed up by Essence which is revealed at the Geneva Motor Show of 2009 not only to coincide with the marque’s 20th anniversary, but also in the midst of the brand’s current challenge: to take on the European market

“This new Infiniti EX35 is a breathtaking design and a breath of fresh air in the segment, with its sculpted elegance, engaging interior and exciting performance,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “And if that’s not enough to stand out in class, there’s its exclusive technology, highlighted by the Around View Monitor and Lane Departure Prevention systems.”

Coupe-Inspired Exterior

The EX35’s sculpted elegance expresses a timeless appeal – sleek lines that portray speed, grace and finesse. Its layout combines the look and feel of a luxury coupe and an SUV’s flexibility.

Its sporty proportions include a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, rearward cabin and smooth coupe-like roofline arching over the windows to the C-pillars.

“The EX35 is the perfect fusion of a luxury coupe and a high-utility SUV,” said Igo. “Its ‘right-sized’ packaging gives it excellent around town maneuverability, while the wide rear hatch and low load floor make it a versatile performer for everyday and weekend use.”

EX35’s exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including a double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights with available Bi-Xenon Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and “dynamic arch” profile. Other exterior features include a high-mounted rear hatchback spoiler, chrome-finished dual exhaust tips, an available power tilt/sliding moonroof with one-touch activation and optional roof rails and crossbars, which offer additional storage possibilities. EX35 also features a standard puddle lamp integrated in the driver’s side-view mirror as part of the hospitality lighting concept.

Eight exterior colors are offered: Moonlight White, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Black Obsidian, Scarlet Silver, Tidewater, Blue Slate and Dark Currant.

One of the unique features of the new EX35 is “Scratch Shield,” a special “self-healing” clearcoat paint, which is designed to maintain its gloss-level over time. The paint repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles, restoring the EX35’s surface close to its original state. The process, which takes anywhere from one day to one week (depending on the surrounding temperature and the depth of the scratch), is accomplished through the use of a special highly elastic resin. This resin is combined with a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint’s flexibility and strength by raising the resin density.

Elegant Interior Design

Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX35 was conceived to offer a reinvigorating and engaging interior environment, one that is both indulgent and inspiring.

The driver-focused “wave-inspired” cabin layout features an Infiniti signature “double-wave” instrument panel, easy-to-read high-contrast gauges with white-and-violet illumination and hospitality lighting with a pin LED light mounted over the center console and Infiniti-signature analog clock.

The instrument panel also features a 7-inch color display with Infiniti controller for the trip computer and additional vehicle information, including the available Infiniti Hard Disk based Navigation System with 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for music storage and playback

Other technology systems include available Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System, standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and XM Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately). Available technology features include RearView Monitor (available separately, or as part of the Around View Monitor system), front and rear sonar system, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Bose® Premium Audio System with Burr-Brown 24-bit DAC, 11 speakers including 2 subwoofers, 6CD in-dash changer and iPod® connectivity.

The interior is offered with cloth or leather-appointed seating surfaces, available in Wheat colored cloth or Graphite, Stone, Wheat and Chestnut leather appointments. A special Black Lacquer trim comes standard on the center console and center stack, with optional Maple wood trim on center console, center stack, and door panels (replacing Black Lacquer and aluminum respectively). There is also a leather and aluminum shift knob, and leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for audio, cruise control, voice commands and Lane Departure Prevention (if equipped). Dual-zone automatic temperature control is also available.

An 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way manual lumbar support and a 4-way power passenger’s seat are standard. A driver’s seat memory system is also offered, along with available heated front seats and 8-way power front passenger’s seat. Also available is a 60/40 split power-folding 2nd row seat (operated from front or hatch area).

“The EX35’s interior is all about driving pleasure and passenger comfort,” said Igo. “Like the exterior, it offers a coupe-like feel but surprising utility – ideal for today’s active lifestyles.”
Advanced Platform and Powertrain

Under the EX35’s dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti performance technology. Its advanced FM platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Sedan.

Every 2008 Infiniti EX35 comes standard with a fourth-generation VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine (shared with the new G35 Sedan), rated at 290-plus horsepower (estimated) and 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, DS sport mode with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), and Adaptive Shift Control.

The engine block features ladder frame construction, variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors and Iridium spark plugs. Its symmetric twin ram air intake system helps reduce airflow resistance, while the dual exhaust system has been designed with equal length exhaust manifolds and reduced muffler exhaust pressure help improve engine breathing.

Both are tuned to create authoritative harmonies, helping enhance driving pleasure, an exciting engine sound and expected improvements in emissions and fuel economy (versus the previous generation VQ engine).

The fourth-generation VQ engine design also includes a long list of advanced systems found on the previous design – including a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), a “noiseless” timing chain for quiet operation, an electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, and molybdenum coated lightweight pistons.

“Like the new G35 Sedan, with which it shares its engine, the EX35’s tuning strategy features a refined balance of quick acceleration that builds continuously to the redline. It’s a deepening pleasure that keeps getting better as you drive, which we call Swell,” sad Igo.

Every EX35 utilizes a subframe-mounted independent front double-wishbone suspension with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is an independent multi-link design with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links and axle housing, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar.

Steering is provided by a vehicle speed-sensitive power-assisted steering system with power-assisted front and rear discs (vented front) and standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Also standard is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), while an advanced Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Preview Braking is optionally available.

Available wheel and tire combinations include 17-inch 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/60R17 tires or 18-inch 8-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/55R18 tires.

The front engine/rear-wheel drive EX 35 is also offered with an intelligent all-wheel drive system. EX35 AWD models feature Infiniti’s ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which is also utilized on the 2008 M, FX and G Sedan.

The system utilizes an active torque distribution management system with an active center clutch designed for smooth starts and better traction and maneuverability on snowy roads than conventional all-wheel drive systems, plus minimal compromise of rear-wheel drive performance characteristics on dry roads.

Two Advanced New Technologies

The EX35’s advanced technology design is highlighted by two systems that are among the first production versions available in North America: the Infiniti Around View Monitor and the Lane Departure Prevention system (Lane Departure Prevention is also offered in the 2008 Infiniti M).

The Infiniti Around View Monitor utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle – helping reduce blind spots when parking.

“Conventional mirrors, no matter how carefully you use them, just can’t provide a view around the vehicle that the Around View Monitor’s four-camera system does,” said Igo. “Rear bumper sonar systems help detect objects behind a vehicle, but again they can’t give the view of the space around the vehicle that the AVM does.”

The Lane Departure Prevention system builds on the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system that is currently available on the Infiniti FX.

Rather than just use an audible/visual warning system to alert the driver of unintentional vehicle movement outside the designated lane, the LDP system uses the vehicle’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position if the vehicle inadvertently starts to drift outside of the lane.

Both LDP and the LDW systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect visible lane markers in front of the vehicle and calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of lane drift (pending lane change without use of the turn signal) with a visual display and audible buzzer.

At the same time, the LDP system assists the driver by using gentle control (generating part of the necessary yaw movement), using the VDC’s brake actuator to control the brake pressure of each individual wheel to generate the intended movement.

“Infiniti has taken a leadership position in offering the first production Lane Departure Warning systems for production vehicles. We’re now poised to continue the development and refinement of this technology with the EX35’s Lane Departure Prevention system,” said Igo.

Every 2008 EX35 also features the Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification system, driver and front passenger side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact and rollover supplemental air bags for front and rear seat outboard occupant head protection, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Also standard are 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts (driver’s side ELR only) and front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, front seat Active Head Restraints and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system for the rear outboard seating positions.

EX35 also features advanced Zone Body Construction with front and rear crushable zones to help disperse crash energy around the passenger compartment.

Models and Packages

The 2008 Infiniti EX35 is available in four models: EX35 RWD (cloth interior only), EX35 AWD (cloth interior only), EX35 RWD Journey and EX35 AWD Journey. EX35 Journey models include power slide/tilt moonroof with one-touch activation, front and rear leather-appointed seating surfaces, power-folding second row seat, auto-dimming inside mirror with electronic compass, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, front and rear sonar system and auto on/off headlights.

A number of packages and options are also available, including Premium Package, Luxe Elite Package, Wood Trim, Navigation Package, Technology Package, Luxe Style Package and Roofrails.

“This new EX35 is simply an extraordinary vehicle, providing a personal reward for those who drive and own it,” said Igo. “With power and agility available on demand, it’s a perfect fit for buyers looking to add a little excitement in their everyday lives. It’s also a great addition to the Infiniti lineup of vibrant performance luxury vehicles.”

The 2009 G37 Convertible will be inspired by the 2008 Coupe version; this means it will combine the same exhilarating performance, stunning styling and modern, sporty interior of the original Infiniti G Coupe.

Under the hood of the Convertible version we will see a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 330 hp and a peak torque of 269 lbs-ft. The engine will be matted with a a choice of an upgraded electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, DS mode and ASC (Adaptive Shift Control) that allows for quicker shifts in sporty driving situations and available genuine magnesium paddle shifters; or a newly revised, lightweight 6-speed manual transmission.

Infiniti G37 Coupe

The G37 Convertible will be build on the FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, which has been stiffened 36% from the previous generation, is lower in overall height and has a wider front and rear track width.

Also there are rumors that Infiniti is working on a more powerful version of the G37: an all-wheel drive, twin-turbocharged version that will have an output of 500 hp. This mean that the 2009 G37 will be even more powerful like a GT-R. So, it will reach at least a top speed of 185 mph and the 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made in less than 4 seconds.

Like the Coupe, the Convertible version will be offered in three different versions: standard, Journey and Sport. The most powerful, and of course the most expensive will be the the Sport version. It will feature 19″ wheels, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD), sport-tuned suspension, sport brakes, unique front fascia and side sills, sport-styled seats and steering wheel stitching.

—-

History

Nissan 300ZX Convertible

Nissan unveiled the 300ZX or the Fairlady Z in 1983. It stayed into production until 2000 and was build with two different: the Z31 and the Z32 (same used in the Z-series).

The Z31 chassis was designed after the previous Z-car, the Nissan 280ZX, but it was featuring a new, more aerodynamic body than the previous 280ZX.

Nissan 300ZX Convertible

It was powered by either a naturally-aspirated or a turbocharged V6 producing 160 hp and 200 hp respectively.

In 1986 Nissan added side skirts and replaced the fiberglass spoiler with a durable plastic one; the 300ZX was given a much sleeker look when the hood scoop was removed. A third brake-light was also added to the interior of the unit for safety.

The convertible version was available only in the Z32 series. It was unveiled in 1993 and lasted until the end of the 300ZX. It was powered by a 3.0-liter V6 that produced 222 hp 6400 rpm and 198 pound-feet of torque 4800 rpm. Power was applied to the rear wheels through a standard five-speed transmission and limited-slip differential. A four-speed automatic was optional.

Nissan 300ZX Convertible

300ZX was also available in Turbo version. It was powered by a modified version of the V6 engine. Thanks to intercooling and a single turbo for each cylinder bank, it produced 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.

First launched in 2004, the QX56 is the first Infiniti built in the USA, but also the most expensive one sold in North America since the Q45 was dropped. It is only available on the US market, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
The QX56 is based on the Nissan Armada SUV and shares the same F-Alpha platform with the Nissan Titan. It is a direct competitor for the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade.
The QX56 enters the 2007 model year with minor enhancements, most notably a power increase of five horsepower (from 315 to 320) and three lb-ft of torque (from 390 to 393). A new color, Pacific Sapphire, is also offered.

For 2007 model year, the QX56 is available in two-wheel and four-wheel drive models, both equipped with a standard 5.6-liter DOHC V8 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission, Sojourner leather-appointed seating, Infiniti Navigation System, Rearview Monitor, Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System, power-operated tailgate and an independent rear suspension (IRS) with load leveling.

Since the introduction for the 2004 model year, the QX56 has become a benchmark in class, with standard luxury features such as front Active Head Restraints, Rearview Monitor and Rear Proximity Sensor, power folding outside mirrors with heat, electro chromic auto-dimming, power adjust and integrated turn signal, Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System and mp3 playback capability.

“The QX56 offers the power, roominess, innovation and utility that SUV owners demand in their vehicles,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “The QX56 addresses the unmet needs in the SUV class admirably from a hardware standpoint. But it also asserts itself with tremendous luxury and style, more than with just its physical scale and capabilities.”

The eight-passenger SUV offers bold exterior styling, with a large, Infiniti-style grille, xenon headlamps and LED taillight treatment. Inside, the QX56 features a sophisticated and refined look and feel, ample 2nd row leg room, and a Bose premium audio system with 6-disc CD changer and MP3/WMA playback capabilities.

“The Infiniti FX, M and most recently the new 2008 G Coupe, can all trace their evolution from show stoppers to Infiniti showrooms in a short period of time,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “With this stunning EX Concept, we’re pleased to announce that along with the basic exterior and interior designs, the production Infiniti EX will include much of the EX Concept’s innovative technology, including the Around View Monitor and Lane Departure Prevention.”

Infiniti EX Concept

The most striking exterior design element of the EX Concept is its dramatic liquid crystal full-length glass roof panel that is able to change from transparent to translucent via input from a special touch sensor system.

“The EX Concept’s glass roof technology is a fascinating study in how technology can be utilized to change the entire interior atmosphere of a vehicle by adding or subtracting not just light, but the occupants’ view of the outside world,” said Igo.

Elegant Interior Design

Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX Concept is conceived to offer a reinvigorating and engaging interior environment, one that is both indulgent and inspiring. The “wave-inspired” cabin layout is focused on the driver, with easy-to-read high-contrast gauges with violet-color illumination and an electric soft-touch shifter system.

The EX Concept’s rich, leather-appointed and aluminum-alloy trimmed interior also offers plenty of passenger luxury – with deep, supportive seats and an ambient lighting system that includes special indirect headrest illumination.

A large, leather-appointed center console box provides utility for driver and front passenger, while the instrument panel includes a wide LCD monitor and signature Infiniti analog clock. The advanced audio system includes aluminum speaker finishers, matching the door-side trim. The roomy rear cargo area combines function with design with its aluminum-alloy flooring with luggage rails.

Infiniti EX Concept

“The EX Concept’s interior is all about driving pleasure and passenger comfort,” said Igo. “Like the exterior, it offers a coupe-like feel but surprising utility – ideal for today’s active lifestyles.”

Advanced Platform and Powertrain

Under the EX Concept’s dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti production hardware. Its advanced FM platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Sedan. For use in the EX Concept, the wheelbase has been shortened to 112.0 inches for a small turning radius, while the rear multi-link suspension utilizes a low shock absorber layout to enhance cargo area utility. It rides on 19-inch 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/55R19 tires.

The EX Concept is powered by a V6 engine, coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The EX Concept also includes an all-wheel drive system.

The World Debut of Two New Technologies

The EX Concept’s advanced technology design is highlighted by two systems that are expected to be the first production versions in the world when the new Infiniti EX goes on sale in North America in late 2007.

Infiniti EX Concept

The Infiniti Around View Monitor utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle – helping reduce blind spots when parking.

“Conventional mirrors, no matter how carefully you use them, just can’t provide a view around the vehicle that the Around View Monitor’s four-camera system does,” said Igo. “Rear bumper sonar systems help detect objects behind a vehicle, but again they can’t give the view of the space around the vehicle that the AVM does.”

The Lane Departure Prevention system builds on the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system that is currently available on the Infiniti FX and M.

Both Lane Departure Prevention and the LDW systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle and calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of lane drift (pending lane change without use of the turn signal) with a visual display and audible buzzer.

If the driver does not return the vehicle in the direction of the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver by using gentle control (generating part of the necessary yaw movement), using the VDC’s brake actuator to control the brake pressure of each individual wheel to generate the intended movement.

Infiniti EX Concept

“Infiniti has taken a leadership position in offering the first production Lane Departure Warning systems for production vehicles. We’re now poised to take the next big step with the upcoming EX’s Lane Departure Prevention system,” said Igo. “We’re confident that the production Infiniti EX will be just as stylish, dramatic, luxurious and innovative as this EX Concept show vehicle. The line continues to be drawn.”

The Infiniti EX Concept was created at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan

The Infiniti M also has captured a number of prestigious accolades, including being named the top-ranked midsize premium sedan in the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. Together with the sporty G35, the rugged Infiniti FX and the luxurious Infiniti QX, the 2007 M gives Infiniti an exceptional lineup of dynamic luxury performance vehicles.

For 2007, the Infiniti M offers new option packages and more standard features. It is again offered in five models: the M35 Luxury (V6 rear-wheel drive), M35 Sport (V6 rear-wheel drive with Rear Active Steer and 19-inch wheels and tires), M35x AWD (V6 all-wheel drive), M45 Luxury (V8 rear-wheel drive) and M45 Sport (V8 rear-wheel drive with Rear Active Steer and 19-inch wheels and tires).

New option packages and standard features highlight the 2007 M, including a new Advanced Technology Package. Infiniti M models are equipped with an advanced 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and downshift rev matching. Other standard features include leather-appointed seats, Intelligent Key with push button ignition, Infiniti Voice Recognition, Bluetooth® wireless technology, in-dash 6-disc changer with MP3 playback capability, improved Infiniti Vehicle Information System with 7-inch LCD screen and easy-to-use controls mounted on both the instrument panel and the steering wheel.

Also standard are Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), 10-way power driver’s and front passenger’s seats, power-sliding sunroof and Advanced Air Bag System (AABS).

The M35 Sport and M45 Sport models offer standard 19-inch wheels and tires (18-inch wheels and tires are standard on non-Sport models), sport-tuned suspension with Rear Active Steer, xenon headlamps with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), climate controlled front sport seats and aluminum interior trim accents.

“The Infiniti M is an expression of power, refinement, technology and design – all the things that make Infiniti owners’ hearts pound,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “The M captures the soul of the Infiniti brand, expressing it in invigorating, forward thinking ways.”

An Enhanced FM Platform

The Infiniti M is available with a choice of V8 or V6 engines, with the vehicles designated M45 and M35, respectively. The M45 features a powerful DOHC 4.5-liter V8, shared with the premium FX45. It is rated at 325 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque. The M35 utilizes an advanced DOHC 3.5-liter V6 rated at 275 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is part of the award-winning VQ engine series also found in the G35 and FX35.

Every Infiniti M utilizes an enhanced next-generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform currently used on the G35 sedan, G35 coupe and FX premium crossover SUV. Approximately 60 percent of the platform design and components have been enhanced for use with the M. Like the previous generation, the redefined FM platform positions the engine behind the front axle. This positioning results in an optimized front-to-rear weight balance, which factors in weight transfer during key handling maneuvers.

The Infiniti M’s large diameter wheels and tires are positioned out near the corners of the vehicle, helping to further enhance handling and driving excitement. The M suspension is an independent double-wishbone design in front and multi-link independent system in the rear.

Sensuous Exterior Design

From a design standpoint, the Infiniti M optimizes both luxury and sport styling to create a dynamic visual appeal. The expressive, jewel-like grille and crystal-look headlight clusters offer a luxurious appeal, while large 18- or 19-inch wheels and low profile tires, a stable posture with wide track, and short overhangs contribute to the sportiness of the design.

The Infiniti M also offers a low, aggressive hood line, which flows into the anchored shoulders and contributes to the sporty, powerful silhouette. The roofline is fluid, while the hood and front fenders are sculpted to provide a solid, muscular look. In the rear, L-shaped LED taillights and quad tailpipes finish out the exterior design.

The Infiniti M’s long wheelbase and short overhangs provide a roomy interior and sporty exterior dimensions. Wide front and rear tracks add to handling stability, while the overall width enhances interior and trunk volume. Also featured are lightweight body components, including aluminum-alloy inner and outer door panels, hood and decklid panels. The M’s aerodynamic design results in zero front lift and, with the available rear spoiler, offers zero rear lift.

—-

Confident, Explosive Performance and Rear Active Steer

At the heart of the Infiniti M is the high-performance power of the V8 or V6 powerplants, each mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and downshift rev matching.

The advanced braking system is designed to offer confidence-inspiring pedal feel and enhanced pedal response, while the steering system is designed to provide an engaging driving experience through a high-flow hydraulic boost system with micro-polished steering gear and robust rack mounting. Every Infiniti M also features Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC).

Along with its advanced engine design, the Infiniti M is also offered with a state-of-the-art intelligent all-wheel drive system. The M35 AWD model features Infiniti’s ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which is also utilized on the Infiniti FX45 and FX35 AWD premium crossover SUVs and G35x AWD sedan.

The system’s advanced torque split control strategy automatically transfers optimum torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions. It provides outstanding cornering capability similar to a sports car due to optimum torque distribution to the front and rear wheels. Combined with the vehicle’s VDC system, each wheel receives the appropriate amount of torque when needed.

The handling and stability of the Infiniti M Sport models is further optimized by Infiniti’s Rear Active Steer system. Unlike passive rear steering systems, this design features precise, electronic motor-driven control. This system helps improve the M Sport’s handling performance by adjusting the geometry of the rear suspension according to steering input and vehicle speed.

The system’s electronic control unit calculates the desired vehicle dynamics from a series of sensors, including vehicle speed and steering angle, and directs the system actuator to change rear geometry by moving both rear suspension lower links. The result is sports car-like agility, combined with luxury sedan stability and ride quality.

A Highly Personalized, Enriching Interior Atmosphere

The M’s interior design engages the senses in invigorating ways, combining a driver-oriented cockpit with a graceful, Infiniti level of luxury and design detail.

The modern and intuitive interior layout focuses on purposeful simplicity. Interior features include genuine Rosewood or aluminum trim, leather-appointed seats, Solar Eclipse instrument lighting system, and available features such as climate controlled front seats, heated power reclining rear seats and advanced Bose® Studio Surround ™sound system with digital 5.1-channel decoding and 14 speakers including two personal speakers mounted in the shoulders of each front seat.

The interior also offers an array of driver and passenger-oriented technology features, including the Infiniti Intelligent Key system with Push Button Start. This system eliminates the need to take the key fob out of your pocket when locking and unlocking the car, accessing the trunk or starting the engine. Other available features include RearView Monitor, Intelligent Cruise Control and Infiniti DVD-based Navigation System with a new user interface featuring voice-activated destination entry as well as HVAC and audio control.

High Tech Safety Systems with New Lane Departure System

The Infiniti M is also a showcase for the latest in Infiniti safety technology, including an available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system. The system recognizes lane markings and calculates the lateral distance between the vehicle and the lane marking, along with vehicle speed relative to the marking, and generates an audible signal to warn the driver of a pending, unintended lane departure. Engagement of the turn signal turns off the system, which also features a cancel switch.

“Over 55 percent of fatal auto accidents in the United States are caused by lane departures, including single vehicle and head-on accidents,” said Igo. “The LDW system is an important advancement in vehicle safety technology.”

Other safety features include an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage front supplemental air bags with Occupant Classification System and roof-mounted side-impact curtain air bags and available brake operated front pre-crash seat belts, which tighten under emergency braking in anticipation of an evasive maneuver or crash.

The Evolution of Luxury

“Luxury has evolved from what was once traditional, status-oriented luxury, to what has come to be a more meaningful, personal approach to luxury,” said Igo. The exhilarating Infiniti M is yet another example of Infiniti’s leadership in providing luxury that appeals to both the soul and intelligence of the driver.”

—-

At a Glance: 2007 Infiniti M

The Infiniti M, which went on sale as an all-new 2006 model in 2005, captured essential elements of both a luxury performance sedan and an award-winning sports sedan, and developed them into a new level of engaging luxury and performance. The new M also has captured a number of prestigious accolades, including being named the top-ranked midsize premium sedan in the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. For 2007, the Infiniti M offers new option packages and more standard features.

Design remains a critical aspect of the M’s visual appeal. The exterior design features a low, aggressive hoodline, which flows into the anchored shoulders and contributes to the sporty, powerful silhouette. Inside, the interior is highly expressive, combining a driver-oriented cockpit with an inviting design detail.

High performance is an Infiniti trademark, and the M does not disappoint. The M45 features the 4.5-liter DOHC V8 shared with the Infiniti FX45. For use in the M45, it produces 325 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque. The M35 is powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC V6, producing 275 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission with performance shifter and manual shift mode with downshift rev matching. The M35 also features an available intelligent all-wheel drive system.

Advanced technology is abundant on the M, starting with standard Bluetooth® wireless technology, a Vehicle Information System with 7-inch LCD screen and easy-to-use controls, Infiniti voice recognition and Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS). M Sport models feature a new Rear Active Steer system, which helps improve vehicle handling performance by adjusting the geometry of the rear suspension according to steering input and vehicle speed. Also featured on the M is an available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system, which warns the driver of a pending, unintended lane departure.

Making it’s world wide debut at the 2006 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the APR GTR35 widebody Infiniti G35 Coupe stunned the crowd with it’s massive appearance and amazing ALSA paint job. And now images are finally available online.

The APR GTR35 Widebody Aerodynamic Kit for the Infiniti G35 Coupe has redefined tuning for the executive level sports touring coupe. Offering an increase of +45mm on the front and +50mm on the rear of each side of the car, the APR GTR35 Widebody Aerodynamic Kit provides the G35 Coupe a whole new level of high speed traction. This increase in size accommodates front wheel sizes of 20”x10” with 285/25/20 profile tires and rear wheel sizes of 20”x12” with 325/25/20 profile tires.

APR Aerodynamic Kits are designed to achieve the highest possible aerodynamic characteristics in a production aero kit. Each kit is engineered to provide minimum drag coefficients while giving each vehicle a wider stance to increase traction. Not only are the kits fully function but also provide a unique look that matches the curves and shapes of each specific vehicle. To ensure the quality fitment and finish, high grade fiberglass and carbon fiber materials are used in the construction of these aero kits.

To enhance stability, the APR GTR35 Widebody Aerodynamic Kit includes a carbon fiber front wind splitter that is designed as a front undertray. The optional 67” (1,700mm) GTC-300 G35 Spec adjustable rear wing adds downforce on the rear wheels to increase rear-end stability.

Enhancing the high tech image of the APR GTR35 aerodynamic kit are the Carbign Craft Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers for the Infiniti G35 Coupe. These Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers include wide angle convex mirrors lenses with blue anti-glare lenses for added safety and bring an executive European look.

This Aerodynamic Kit Includes:

Widebody Front Bumper

Carbon Fiber Wind Splitter and Front Undertray

Widebody Front Fenders (45mm)

Widebody Side Skirt

Widebody Rear Fenders and Gas Door (50mm)

Widebody Drag Reduction Rear Bumper

Carbign Craft Carbon Fiber Mirrors and GTC-300 G35 Spec Wing are not included with the GTR35 Widebody Kit.

With a new interior and refined exterior, Infiniti is enhancing and improving what customers already love about the QX – styling, technology, comfort – without compromising its towing capacity and interior roominess.

“Like the all-new G Sedan, the 2008 QX demonstrates Infiniti’s philosophy of constantly evolving in the competitive luxury segment,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager of Infiniti. “Despite being voted by consumers as top in its class in the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, we’ve given the new QX significant upgrades in the areas of interior design, performance, luxury features, and technology.”

The new QX, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in April 2007, is the first major revision since it joined the luxury SUV scene in 2004 with a number of class-leading standard features. The exterior enhancements to the new QX include new front and rear fascias, new front fog lamps, new roof rack, standard 20-inch chromed aluminum-alloy wheels, and two new exterior colors – Lakeshore Slate and Serengeti Sand.

The QX’s new interior is highlighted by a new instrument panel cluster design with Fine Vision electroluminescent instrumentation and a new genuine wood grain interior trim. Comfort and convenience is enhanced with a new 3rd-row power folding seat, standard heated steering wheel on the 4WD model, and a new stone interior.

Technological advancements include a new standard Premium Audio System with Bose® Speakers, Burr-Brown Digital Audio Converter and 9.5-gigabyte Music Box hard drive and compact flash slot for playing MP3 files, Infiniti Navigation system and Intelligent Key.

Also available is an Infiniti Mobile Entertainment System with a larger screen (8.0 inches versus the previous 7.0), and a standard XM NavTraffic system with real-time traffic information (requires active XM satellite radio subscription) – which allows drivers to chose the most efficient route to get to their destination.

The QX maintains its class-leading 2nd row roominess, go-anywhere ruggedness and the abundant power and up to 9,000-pound towing capability (when properly equipped) of the standard 320-horsepower DOHC 5.6-liter V8 engine.

Infiniti is keeping to its promise of delivering three new cars in thirteen months by introducing the next-generation Infiniti G Coupe and a new crossover sport utility concept at the 2007 New York International Auto Show in April.

Since its introduction in 2003, the G35 Coupe has showcased many of Infiniti’s high-tech offerings, including available Rear Active Steer, bi-xenon and unique Sport Package styling features, including a special front fascia, side sills and an optional rear spoiler.

Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, the rear-wheel drive G35 Coupe offers also a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. A 4-wheel independent suspension with lightweight aluminum components enhances the G35 Coupe’s performance. The 2007 G35 Coupe also features standard Intelligent Key (not available on G35 Coupe 6MT) and standard auto on/off headlights.

An Emphasis on Performance

The G35 Coupe’s advanced 5-speed automatic transmission features a manual mode function with Downshift Rev Matching that revs the engine with each downshift to provide better response for the driver. Also available is a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. Infiniti’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system is a standard on every G35 Coupe.

The G35’s standard 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine is the foundation for all models. This engine produces 275 horsepower on automatic transmission-equipped models and 293 horsepower on the G35 Coupe 6MT. Part of the award-wining VQ engine series, the advanced engine design includes a long list of advanced systems, including the Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), a noiseless timing chain for silent operation, a structurally reinforced aluminum engine block and an electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system. It also offers a modular engine design, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes and molybdenum coated lightweight pistons.

To reduce unsprung weight, the G35 Coupe offers a standard, advanced 4-wheel multi-link suspension design with extensive use of aluminum-alloy components. It also incorporates special “riple control” shock absorbers technology for responsive yet comfortable ride and handling.

The front suspension design minimizes alignment changes by using 2 separate lower links and a long upper link. The rear design separates the shock absorbers and springs, locating the shock absorber inline with the wheel center to reduce suspension friction and reduce the wind-up motion of the axle on acceleration.

Being more aggressive than the G35 Coupe model, the suspension tuning of Sport-Tuned Suspension Package (standard on the 6MT) offers stiffer spring and shocks and larger diameter stabilizer bars.

The handling and stability of the 2007 G35 Coupe is further optimized by an available Infiniti Rear Active Steer system. Unlike passive rear steering systems, this design features motor driven control that helps to improve the vehicle’s handling performance by adjusting the rear suspension geometry according to steering input and vehicle speed.

The system’s electronic control unit calculates the desired vehicle dynamics from a series of sensors, including vehicle speed and steering angle and directs the system actuator to change rear geometry by moving both rear suspension lower links. The result is sports car-like agility, combined with luxury stability and ride quality. First introduced on Infiniti M45 and M35 Sport models, the Rear Active Steer system available in addition, the package is available to the G35 Coupe 6MT model with Premium Package and G35 Coupe model with Sport and Premium Packages

The Rear Active Steer Package also offers an enhanced vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering system with a 15.1:1 steering gear ratio.

By using the innovative FM (for Front-Mid-ship) platform, the G35 Coupe positions the engine behind the front axle. This results in a nearly optimized front-to rear weight balance of 54:46, which factors in weight transfer during key handling maneuvers, such as entering and exiting corners. The FM platform positions its large diameter wheels and tires out near the corners of the vehicle, providing an extra measure of handling stability.

Equipped with standard 6-spoke, 17-inch cast aluminum wheels along with P225/50VR17 tires up front with P235/50VR17 tires in the rear, the vehicle also offers 7-spoke, 18-inch titanium-finish wheels and high-performance tires.

The G35 Coupe 6MT and Sport-Tuned Suspension Package equipped models feature 5-spoke, 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels with P225/40YR19 tires in front and P245/40YR19 tires in the rear. The Sport-Tuned Suspension Package also adds a standard Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VSLD). All G35 Coupes are provided with a standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS).

Standard braking system components include 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with large rotors and ABS, along with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD)

—-

Sporty Exterior, Refined Interior

The exterior of the G35 Coupe provides styling that is both sporty and elegant. It adds projector -beam bi-xenon headlights, integrated fog lights, LED tail lamps and a body-color dual power, heated, remote-controlled outside mirrors. The Sport Package offers a unique front fascia and side sills.

An Aero Package is available, with a revised rear spoiler and rear side air diffusers. Also offered on all models is a dual sliding glass sunroof with one-touch open/close operation.

The G35 Coupe shares the G35 sedan’s long 112.2-inch wheelbase but is several inches shorter in overall length (182.2 inches versus 187.0) and height (54.8 inches versus 57.2). With its performance-oriented chassis, wider wheel openings and fenders, the G35 Coupe is also slightly wider than the sedan (71.5 inches versus 69.8).

The G35 Coupe is a 4-passenger vehicle which combines a driver-oriented cockpit with an Infiniti level of luxury and design detail. Leather-appointed seats (with heated front seats) are standard. The sport-contoured front bucket seats are 8-way power adjustable for the passenger. A power walk-in feature allows access to the rear seats and the rear seatback folds down for added cargo flexibility. Real aluminum is used on the center console and dashboard areas for an added degree of authenticity.

The car also features a standard in-dash 6-disc CD changer with MP3 CD playback capability and an optional digital Bose premium audio system with 8 speakers and a DVD-based Infiniti Navigation System with 7.0-inch power retractable monitor. The Premium Package adds Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System, power tilt and telescoping steering column and driver’s seat and steering wheel memory.

Other interior amenities include an Infiniti signature analog clock, Fine Vision electro-fluorescent gauge illumination and driver and passenger one-touch up/down power windows and door locks.

Safety

Every G35 Coupe comes with a standard Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seatbelt sensors and RF occupant classification sensor, front-seat side-impact supplemental airbags and roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags. Also standard are 3-point ALR/ELR seatbelts (driver’s side ELR only) and front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, front seat Active Head Restraints and the LATCH system.

The G35 Coupe’s FM platform Zone Body Construction is designed to help protect occupants in a collision by efficiently absorbing crash energy through use of front and rear crushable zones. In a high-speed frontal collision, for example, the crushable zone crumples while the engine is designed to move under the occupant compartment. This has the effect of expanding the crushable zone, thus helping to reduce the deceleration g-force and simultaneous helping to minimize cabin deformation, especially in the lower leg area.

A strong body construction is needed to decrease the amount of cabin deformation in offset impacts. Other features also contribute to improve the occupants’ safety, adding the breakaway construction of the propeller shaft and the double-wall construction of the bulkhead.

The new Sport Model of the Infiniti Q provides a sport-tuned suspension with Rear Active Steer and cast alloy 19-inch wheels and performance tires. The Q45 model is equipped with a revised 5-speed automatic transmission with wider gear spacing, plus Downshift Rev Matching and a new torque converter design for a better shift quality.

Exterior

A distinctive, premium performance look, which stands out in its class, is also offered by the Infiniti Q. An elegant silhouette, with raised rear deck, large taillights, body-color side molding with accents and chrome door handles are featured by the sculpted profile of the car.

The long wheelbase (113.0 inches) and wide cabin (72.6 inches) give the continuity of the Q45’s dimensions and make its overall length (200.8 inches) still manageable. A high aerodynamic efficiency, with a 0.30 coefficient of drag, is also offered by the Q45.

The large, multi-lens projector High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight system is one of the most striking features of the Q45’s exterior. To provide a wide distribution beam pattern that uses a large luminous flux, seven individual lenses and a free-surface reflector design are combined.

Interior

Highest quality materials with a handcrafted look and a high level of convenience features make the continuity of the Q45’s interior. Rich textured materials, including soft leather appointments and genuine wood accents, cover all the interior surfaces.

The Q45’s cockpit offers the driver a wood-trimmed, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport contour seats and large, electro-illuminiscent instruments.

A standard DVD-based Infiniti Navigation System with a 7.0-inch LCD screen and a Birdview display LCD monitor is mounted at the highest position on the instrument panel for a better visibility.

With the standard RearView Monitor system, the LCD screen is also used to help view what’s behind the Q45. An image from a small camera mounted near the rear license plate is displayed by the monitor, which operates when the reverse gear is selected. Through the use of colored gridlines, this system indicates the approximate distance to the objects in the camera’s view field behind the car.

The vehicle operation information are displayed by the integrated standard Vehicle Information System (VIS), ranging from audio settings, climate control and maintenance to vehicle settings. Infiniti‘s Voice Recognition System, developed with a second generation Visteon Voice Technology, is another feature found on every Q45. This system offers voice-activated control of the Bose premium audio system, HVAC system and select navigation system functions, allowing the driver’s hands to stay on the wheel at all times.

Standard on all Q45s for 2006 is the Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System, which allows the user to access phone numbers, answer and make calls through the vehicle’s audio system, keeping the eyes on the road and the hands on the steering wheel.

Among other features of the Q45’s interior, there are an instrument panel with fully integrated switchgear, 10-way driver and 8-way front passenger seat with memory and a dual-zone automatic temperature control system, as well as an Infiniti’s signature in-dash analog clock, which adds an elegant touch to the instrument panel.

A high level of luxury is offered to the rear seat passengers by the ample leg and head room creating a comfortable environment. The sun heat is diminished by an available power rear sun shade, along with manual rear door window sunshades. Also, there are heated power-reclining rear seats with adjustable backrest angle and exit assist, together with an oversize centre armrest with rear audio and climate controls, which provide an exclusive, limousine-like setting for the rear passenger in the Q45 with the Premium Package.

Climate controlled seats in front with ventilated heating and cooling functions, perforated leather-appointed seat inserts and driver lockout for the rear audio and HVAC controls – are also offered by the Premium Package.

—-

Powertrain and Performance

The standard on every Q45 is Infiniti’s 4.5-liter V8, which is also used in the FX45 premium crossover SUV and the Infiniti M45 performance sedan. In the Q45, this engine produces 340 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque.

Titanium valves, modular cylinder heads, microfinished crankshaft, lightweight pistons and a super-silent single stage cam drive chain – all a featured by the Q45’s engine. The V8 is outfitted with a variable length air induction system and Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System to enhance the engines power delivery and operation efficiency.

Performance and smoothness are optimized by an Electronic Torque-Demand Powertrain Control system, which manages the engine power, throttle positioned and the transmission gear selections. For the 2006 Q45, the transmission has been revised with wider gear spacing and a new torque converter design.

Smoothness, confidence-inspiring handling is provided by the Q45’s rigid body and compliant suspension system – 4-wheel independent suspension with a strut front and multi-link gear.

Safety and Security

The new Infiniti Rear Active Steer system optimizes the handling and stability of the new Q45 Sport. The handling performance is improved by adjusting the rear suspension geometry according to the steering input and vehicle speed.

Four-wheel vented discs with anti-lock function (ABS) provide the Q45’s braking system. This contains two advanced features that help to increase the braking efficiency and control. The Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) controls front and rear brake distribution, depending on load condition and the Brake Assist (BA) senses hard or panic pedal application and helps getting maximum braking capacity.

The standard 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels of the Q45 are finished in a titanium color and offer 225/55R17 V-rated all-season performance tires. The Premium Package includes 8-spoke 18 inch titanium-finish aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/45R18 V-speed rated all-season performance tires. Also available with the Premium Package are 8-spoke 18-inch wheels with chrome finish. A Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is standard on all Q45s, providing real-time tire pressure readings.

The latest in Infiniti safety technology for 2006, with the available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system is offered by the Q45. this system recognizes visible lane marking, along with the vehicle speed relative to the marking, generating an audible signal to warn the driver of an imminent lane departure.

An abundance of standard safety features are also included for the Q45, such as patented brake-operated “pre-crash” front seat belts, which tighten under emergency braking to help restrain a passenger before a crash happens. Also, it helps to improve the efficiency of the airbags by reducing the forward movement of the passenger before a crash. If no crash, the pre-crash belts return to the normal mode, ready for the next emergency braking situation.

The safety system of the standard Q45 also includes the Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS), with passenger seat sensor and dual-stage extra air bags that sense the collision severity and seat belt usage and deploy accordingly. Front seat occupants also get front-seat Active Head Restraints, which help reduce whiplash neck injuries suffered in certain rear-end collisions. Also, supplemental side-impact air bags provide enhanced chest protection and side curtain supplemental air bags that deploy from the roof to protect the heads of both front and outboard rear seat passenger in certain side-impact collisions. The LATCH system and an advanced anti-theft system are included for all Q45s.

Infiniti’s latest advanced concept vehicle, the Triant, made its world debut at Detroit’s 2003 North American International Auto Show on a stage shared with a former Infiniti concept-turned production vehicle, the 2003 Infiniti FX45 premium crossover SUV. Like the all-new FX45, the Triant is designed to provide an innovative combination of sportiness, luxury features and all-wheel drive performance in a highly personal, dramatically styled package

Exterior

The Infiniti Triant’s exterior was designed as a modern interpretation of classic sporting vehicles – vehicles that expressed driving pleasure through a deeply rooted sense of beauty and elegance. Triant creates a similar feeling in a SUV through a fusion of authentic sports coupe styling and the latest in automotive technology with an emotional, Japanese influenced design flavor.

The Triant’s doors are a wide gullwing design, stretching over five-and-a-half feet in length and opening to nearly seven feet in height. The doors, which are electrically operated and assisted by six gas cylinders each, feature lightweight aluminum construction and a special door opening sensing system which helps avoid hitting people or objects when the doors open or close. Like the gullwing side doors, the large rear hatch swings widely open, offering exceptional access to the flexible cargo area.

Other major exterior features include an advanced headlight system that guides the headlight beams around turns with the aid of digital mapping data and GPS technology. The high beams swing up to 15 degrees, while the low beams swing up to 30 degrees in corners, providing greatly enhanced nighttime visibility, especially on mountain or switchback roads.

Interior

The inner reaches of the Triant concept’s 2+2 cabin are equally intriguing, combining flexibility for active lifestyles with an Infiniti attention to enhancing the driving experience. It was designed with the understanding that all the unspoken ’elements’ that combine to make an interior – such as the form, details, materials, textures, lights and atmosphere – should reflect the personality of both the vehicle and the brand. For Triant, the interpretation of the ’Infiniti feeling’ is expressed in its comfort, quality, modernity and authentic Japanese undertones.

Bodywork

The Triant’s sporty appearance is also marked by its 8.5×19-inch chromed aluminum-alloy wheels and aggressive 255/55R19 low-profile tires. The exterior paint treatment is a special Liquid Mercury color with exceptionally deep liquidity.

Though a fully capable SUV – with its height-adjustable suspension and SUV-like approach and departure angles – the Triant concept delivers on-road performance to match its sport coupe-like appearance.

Features

At the heart of the Triant is a compact yet powerful 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. An advanced ATTESA ET-S all-wheel drive system provides all-climate driving ability, while the 4-wheel independent suspension combines a comfortable ride with secure road holding. The suspension also can be raised 0.8 inches for off-pavement use and lowered 1.2 inches for highway driving.

As an all-new model for 2004, the QX56 receives only minor enhancements for the 2005 model year. Designated QX56 for its powerful 5.6-liter, 315-horsepower V8 engine, the QX56 adds the RearView monitor as standard equipment on all models for 2005 and active head restraints for the front passenger position.

Exterior

The exterior styling of the Infiniti QX56 projects a very powerful presence, beginning with its large hood, Infiniti-style chrome “waterfall” grille and taut, barrel-shaped sides. The jewel-like xenon headlights are located low in the fenders, which, combined with the integrated halogen fog lamps, help give the QX56 a strong resemblance to the elegant front end design established by the original Infiniti QX4. The large 18-inch tires are placed close to the edge of the wheelwells, enhancing the taut, athletic stance, while the standard 7-spoke chromed aluminum-alloy wheels and chrome wheel lip moldings – connected visually by the standard body side cladding and running boards – complement the QX56’s sophisticated luxury imagery.

The exterior design also offers a long list of additional features, including chrome front door handles, dual power-adjustable heated chrome side mirrors with puddle lamps, privacy glass for the 2nd and 3rd rows and power-operated flip-out rear quarter windows. Also offered as standard equipment is a Rear Proximity Sensor (back-up obstacle warning system) in the rear bumper.

Standard for 2005, the Infiniti RearView monitor system, like that offered with the flagship Q45 sedan, utilizes a small CCD camera discretely located in the rear license plate finisher to provide a picture of what is behind the vehicle (projected on the QX56’s standard navigation system LCD monitor).

The QX56’s opulent interior parallels Infiniti cars. Taking advantage of its long 123.2-inch wheelbase and manageable 206.9-inch overall length, the QX56’s designers filled the SUV’s spacious interior with a high level of roominess, comfort and convenience features – and one other thing, a distinctively luxurious atmosphere.

Interior

The interior starts with modern styling of the instrument panel, seats and storage areas and the use of first quality materials such as Sojourner® leather-appointed seating surfaces and thick (16-oz.) Tuscano carpeting. Genuine Dark Macore or Blonde Apaya wood trim is used on the center console cover and steering wheel, with aluminum accents on the steering wheel trim and instrument panel finisher.

The QX56’s instrument panel is highlighted by Fine Vision instrument illumination, signature Infiniti analog clock, dual-zone electronically controlled climate control and a standard DVD-based navigation system with 7.0-inch LCD screen. A Bose® audio system with 10 speakers, AM/FM/6-CD autochanger and steering wheel mounted controls is standard on every QX56. The system includes dual media capability, which allows the use of radio and CD at the same time (headphones must be used to listen to second audio source).

Features

The QX56 blends responsive acceleration with agile handling through use of its leading edge engine and chassis design. The standard 5.6-liter DOHC V8 produces 315 horsepower at 4,900 RPM and 390 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM through the use of advanced design features such as aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, forged steel crankshaft, microfinished crankshaft and camshafts, molybdenum-coated pistons, 6-bolt main bearing caps, single-stage timing chain and, for precise control, an electronic “drive-by-wire” throttle.

Every QX56 also comes with a standard 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with tow/haul modes for enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. The transmission is geared specifically for use in high torque situations and includes an advanced torque converter design for improved fuel economy and an advanced powertrain management program for smooth shift quality.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Active Brake Limited-Slip (ABLS) (includes deactivation switch) is also offered as standard on every QX56.

The 2005 QX56 is available in two drive configurations – rear-wheel drive ($47,750) and an all-wheel drive model ($50,750) featuring an all-wheel drive system with RWD/4H/4LO modes, electronically controlled part-time transfer case with low gear. The two-speed electronic transfer case allows the driver to select between auto, full-time all-wheel drive and 4LO.

The 2005 QX56 also features standard engine-speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, 4-wheel disc brakes with Bosch Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), 7-spoke 18x8J chromed aluminum-alloy wheels and 265/70R18 SUV tires and Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) with standard warning lamp (in gauge cluster) and warning display. A standard 28-gallon fuel tank provides an excellent driving range.

The Q45 came back completely redesigned for 2002. This Q45 focused on performance again with a new 340 hp (253 kW) 4.5 L VK45DE V8 engine, gatling-gun inspired HID headlights, and sharper styling. The car features a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Despite good reviews, sales remained poor.

Low sales are attributed not to the car’s overall quality or performance, but to lack of advertising and the arguable prestige of the Infiniti name.

Upgrades

The Q45 received a number of upgrades for the 2005 model year, including new front and rear fascias, restyled hood and grille, restyled trunk lid, new headlight design, integrated fog lights and LED taillights. Inside were new contoured double-stitched seats, white luminescent gauge markings, chrome accents and dark maple trim. 2005 upgrades also included a recalibrated transmission and new 17″ alloy wheels.

Features

The following features are standard in the Infiniti Q45: all-leather interior, power sunroof, 8-way power front seats, remote keyless entry, rain-detecting wipers and side curtain airbags. Standard electronics include: CD, 8 Bose speakers, trip computer, rear camera parking sensors and a voice-activated navigation system. The 2002 Q45 was the first vehicle to ever offer voice-activated navigation controls.

The car seats five and has a base price of US$56,200.

Entering the FX35, you’ll find a spacious five-passenger interior furnished with handcrafted leather and polished aluminum accents, with a cockpit that includes a “floating” instrument cluster with a 9.5-inch LCD display. The rear quarters can be equipped with an optional DVD entertainment system that should keep most every rear passenger amused for hours. Infiniti outfitted the FX35 to perform more like a luxury sedan than an SUV. Although it’s certainly not the most practical luxury SUV on the market, the 2005 Infiniti FX35 delivers impressive performance and a luxurious ride that will surprise anyone who thinks it’s just another lumbering sport-utility vehicle.

Body Styles, Trim Levels and Options

The Infiniti FX35 is a four-door midsize SUV offered in one trim level. Standard equipment includes eight-way power driver and front-passenger seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, HID headlights, an in-dash six-disc CD changer and 18-inch aluminum wheels. There are three significant option packages for adding additional equipment. The Premium Package adds items like leather seating, a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, heated seats and mirrors, a sunroof, a 300-watt Bose audio system, steering wheel audio controls, auto headlights and a programmable Homelink remote transmitter. The Sport Package is identical to the Premium Package, except for the addition of 20-inch aluminum wheels. For more gadgets, the Technology Package augments the equipment in the Sport Package with a DVD navigation system, intelligent keyless entry (that uses electronic signals in place of a conventional keyless remote), a DVD entertainment system, radar-based adaptive cruise control, a rearview backup camera and a tire-pressure monitoring system. An available Lane Departure Warning System (LDW) works to alert the driver to any unintended movement of the vehicle out of a designated traffic lane.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2005 Infiniti FX35 is available with either rear- or all-wheel drive. Both models use a 280-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode. All-wheel-drive models use an electronically controlled system that automatically directs power to the wheels with the most traction.

Safety

Safety highlights include four-wheel vented disc brakes with ABS, BrakeAssist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. Front-seat side-impact airbags are standard, along with front and rear head-curtain airbags. Electronic traction and stability control systems also come standard. All-wheel-drive versions feature a snow mode for smoother take-offs on slippery roads.

Interior Design and Special Features

With plenty of passenger room and a clean design, the FX35 interior is comfortable and easy to get used to. Although leather upholstery is available, the interior has more of a sporty flavor than a luxurious one, as aluminum trim takes the place of wood accents. The center console features a few too many buttons of similar shape and size. The sloping roofline makes for tight headroom in back, but the seat backs recline for added space when needed. Cargo room is tight as there’s just 65 cubic feet of room compared to 80 cubic feet or more in most midsize SUVs.

Driving Impressions

Built specifically to excel on the pavement where most owners will use it most, the Infiniti FX35 handles more like a sedan than an SUV. Minimal body roll, quick steering and the powerful V6 engine all combine to provide a driving experience that few other SUVs can match. When driven at the upper end of its performance limits, the FX35 isn’t as easy to control as a BMW X5, but the vast majority of drivers will find its road manners exceptional.

For 2003, QX4 receives key packaging enhancements, including the addition of previous Premium Package features as standard equipment. This includes 17-inch wheels and tires, a leather/genuine wood steering wheel, driver’s seat memory and steering wheel mounted audio control switches. One new exterior color is offered for the new model year.

“The QX4 continues to offer the heart of a rugged, authentic off-roader with the soul of a true luxury vehicle,” said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “For 2003, there are more standard luxury features, enhancing the value of an already great luxury SUV package.”

Crisp Exterior, Elegant Interior Design

QX4’s elegant styling has been enhanced for the 2003 model year with available chrome-finished aluminum-alloy wheels and one new exterior color – Diamond Graphite.

The Infiniti QX4 comes standard with a distinctive headlight design featuring High Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon headlights with auto on/off feature, integrated fog lights and turn signals. Other exterior features include 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a full-size spare tire with matching alloy wheel, dual body-color power remote-controlled heated outside mirrors, black privacy glass, variable intermittent rear liftgate glass wiper, integrated fender flares, splash guards and step rails with slip-resistant inserts.

Inside, the QX4 features a 6-speaker 150-watt Bose® audio system with AM/FM/cassette, 6-disc in-dash CD player, Radio Data System (RDS) and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

QX4 offers a wide array of luxury and convenience features including a genuine wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-appointed seats, leather-wrapped gearshift knob and parking brake lever, genuine Bird’s Eye maple wood trim, power door locks with selective unlocking, retained accessory power function for the sunroof (optional) and power windows, advanced 6-way remote keyless entry system, an 8-way adjustable power driver’s seat/4-way power front passenger’s seat, available heated rear seats, 60/40 split fold-down and reclining rear seatback design, fold-down center armrest, front and rear dual cup holders with front cover, HomeLink® Universal Transceiver and rear 12-volt power outlets.

QX4 also includes an ergonomically designed instrument panel highlighted by easy-to-read electro-fluorescent gauge cluster illumination, an integrated quartz analog clock, digital Automatic Temperature Control with CFC-free air conditioning, overhead console with compass and outside temperature display and an available Infiniti Mobile Entertainment System – a rear seat entertainment system with video cassette player or DVD player and flip-down 6.4-inch ceiling mounted LCD screen which plays through wireless headphones or the Bose® audio system.

The 2003 QX4 is available in two interior colors, Graphite or Stone Beige. Each interior color is complemented by color-specific genuine Bird’s Eye Maple wood-tone trim.

A Powerful 240-hp V6, an Advanced 4WD System, and Intelligent Cruise Control

QX4’s technologically advanced 3.5-liter DOHC V6 produces 240 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 265 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm. This engine is part of the same engine family that was named one of the ‘Ten Best Engines’ in the world eight consecutive years by Ward’s Auto World magazine.

Among the advanced systems found in this engine are continuous valve timing control, a variable intake system, a lightweight piston design, an aluminum-alloy block, electronic throttle control system, 100,000-mile service interval platinum-tipped spark plugs and extensive noise, vibration and harshness countermeasures. An engine cover provides a clean engine compartment appearance.

All 2003 QX4s are equipped with an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The transmission features Infiniti’s advanced integrated transmission controller for seamless shifting.

The QX4 is available in 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, featuring Infiniti’s advanced All-Mode 4WD system. The All-Mode 4WD system provides a superior driving experience on and off the pavement, utilizing all-wheel drive technology derived from Nissan’s world-class Skyline GT-R sports coupe (rather than traditional truck-based systems). All-Mode 4WD was designed to instantly distribute torque to the front wheels (up to 50 percent can go to the front wheels on demand) resulting in optimal traction with improved fuel economy and enhanced cornering capability.

All QX4s are built with rigid MonoFrame construction, providing a stable platform, reduced noise and vibration, improved ride and handling and excellent body fit. The QX4’s advanced suspension offers the best of both on-road comfort and off-road durability. The independent front strut design provides exceptional driving feel, enhanced stability, a tight turning radius and a long stroke for exceptional suspension travel, which helps each wheel maintain contact with the ground over uneven terrain.

The 5-link coil-spring rear suspension provides long suspension travel, enhanced stability and control of body lean, along with reduced noise and vibration. Stabilizer bars are featured front and rear for improved handling, while vehicle-speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering provides precise control and driver feedback.

Braking is provided by power-assisted front vented disc brakes and rear drum brakes working in conjunction with a load-sensing brake valve to determine how much weight is inside the vehicle. A special G-sensor, which measures the deceleration rate of the vehicle, interacts with the ABS control unit to help ensure that ABS does not interfere with braking during low-speed, extreme angle off-road maneuvers.

Safety and Security

The 2003 QX4 includes a long list of standard safety equipment including front seat active head restraints, which help to minimize head movement at impact to help reduce whiplash and other more serious injuries in certain rear-end collisions, dual front supplemental air bags, dual front seat side-impact supplemental air bags, front seat belts with adjustable upper anchors, pretensioners and load limiters, three-point rear outboard passenger seat belts, child-safety rear door locks and a child seat anchor with three tether points. For 2003, a LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren) child seat anchor system has been added as standard on all QX4s.

Driver and passenger confidence is accentuated with an extensive list of vehicle-incorporated safety features including an energy-absorbing steering column, front and rear structure crumple zones, hood buckling creases with safety stops (to help avoid intrusion into the passenger compartment), special “outrigger” box-section body side reinforcements and a shift interlock system. Also standard are a Vehicle Security System with remote keyless entry and indicator light and the Infiniti Vehicle Immobilizer System.

Model Availability

The 2003 Infiniti QX4 comes fully equipped, with a choice of 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive. Both are complete with leather-appointed interior, automatic transmission and 150-watt Bose® audio system along with genuine wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, driver’s seat with memory function and 17-inch alloy wheels.

“The design of the M45 is highly distinctive, both inside and out. The exterior offers a strong, integrated appearance, as if carved from one piece of stone,” said Mark McNabb, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “The interior places a priority on progressive technology. It combines comfort for passengers and control for the driver and comes standard with the Q45’s popular Vehicle Information System with large, multi-function LCD screen.”

One of the most attractive features of the new M45 is found under the hood. Standard on all models is an aluminum-alloy, double overhead-cam, 4.5-liter V8 engine that produces 340 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. Controlling this powerplant is a standard 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

Other performance features include Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which helps improve vehicle stability during understeer, oversteer or adverse road conditions, an integral Traction Control System (TCS), Brake Assist (BA) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and vehicle speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering.

The Infiniti M45’s aggressive handling, outstanding stability and responsive steering are provided by an independent strut suspension with coil springs in the front and an independent multi-link suspension in the rear. Standard 18-inch wheels and 235/45WR18 high performance tires contribute to the crisp performance and responsive chassis capability.

Distinctive Exterior Design

The M45’s exterior design offers distinction and differentiation from other products available in the market. The front end is enhanced by an aggressive front grille, with wide black chrome horizontal bars, which flow into the sporty, high-intensity discharge xenon headlight design.

Viewed from the side, the silhouette forms a dynamic wedge shape running from the front to the rear. A long 110.2-inch wheelbase contributes to a luxurious yet sporty attitude, while maintaining a personal, comfortable driving space inside.

The rear styling offers a simple yet sporty form, with swept back C-pillar, tapered rear appearance and highly visible combination lamps. Other exterior features include body-colored side molding and chrome door handles.

Refined Interior Design

Even with sharp focus on performance, the M45 presents an interior that is pure Infiniti. The new M45’s fully appointed interior provides rewarding comfort for both driver and passenger.

The luxurious, sport contoured front bucket seats are finished with soft, Infiniti-exclusive “Sojourner” leather seating surfaces. A 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way power passenger seat are standard on every M45. In addition, optional Climate Controlled Seats (CCS‘) are offered, which significantly enhance driver and passenger comfort in virtually all climatic conditions by offering both heating and cooling functions.

The interior also features genuine Bird’s Eye Maple wood trim with a smoke graphite color and a performance-oriented four-dial instrument cluster, complete with amber lighting that silhouettes the gauges. The M45’s high tech luxury amenities include an optional DVD-based navigation system, Intelligent Cruise Control system that maintains driver-selected following distances and the state-of-the-art Infiniti Voice Recognition System from the Q45.

A 225-watt Bose® premium digital audio system with 7 speakers, AM/FM stereo cassette and 6-disc CD changer comes standard, along with audio steering wheel controls. The M45 audio system is fully compatible with the latest satellite radio technology (available through Infiniti retailers). Every M45 also comes equipped with an automatic dual-zone temperature control with ambient temperature display, illuminated entry/exit system, rear console mounted air conditioning vents and rear heater ducts, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, Infiniti signature analog clock and much more.

All M45 models also feature dual stage front supplemental air bags, front seat side-impact supplemental air bags, front and rear curtain side impact supplemental air bags and active head restraints for the front seats.

Three stand-alone factory options are also available: sunroof, all-season tires (at no additional charge) and premium natural-color Maple wood trim and shifter knob.

Price for a base 2004 Infiniti M45 in the US is $42,000.

“The I35 is a significant component of the Infiniti lineup,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “The combination of luxury and performance that come together in the I35 gives buyers the best of both worlds – an enjoyable driving experience and a refined interior.”

Features

A 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 again provides the I35 with refined performance. The highly acclaimed engine, producing 255 horsepower and 246 lb-ft of torque, is part of the VQ engine series that has won praise as one of the “Ten Best Engines” from Ward’s Auto World magazine for nine consecutive years. The engine’s advanced design includes continuous variable timing control, a silent timing chain and electronically controlled throttle.

A sport-tuned suspension is available with the Cold Weather Package.
